Xerox xc865 - follow up questions

You are not getting any transfer. There are two types of transfers:
1- Corona wire; a set of very thin wires (hair thin and usually gold) that sit exactly against the drum. they are eiher broken or the unit is shorting out

< Is this something I can repair / replace myself - what would the parts cost to do so? >

2- a black spongy roller, usually don't go bad may need some recalibration
other possibility is the Developper unit,
which may be going bad look at it does it have a coat of toner on it? if no and you can see the long roller (it should be a silver magnet roller) if you can see the silver then there is not enough toner on the roller, it should have a thin solid layer of toner all the way

< is the developer unit something I can replace myself? what would the part cost & do I need a repair manual & special tools to do the work? Would I be better off getting a new copier?>

I have a xerox xc865 copier with a broken corona wire.
I had the same problem. After reading this post I found I had a broken corona wire.Is there an easy fix for this? I haven't been able to find an exact replacement part. It looks like the wire can be replaced but can't find the specs for the the wire. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

This copier has a toner cartridge and drum cartridge. If you are getting a blank page either the paper is not getting charged my the corona wire (located in the bottom of this device), or the drum is not getting charged. A great way to check is to open the lid and make a copy. When the page is half way through, turn off the device. Open the copier, remove the toner cartridge first (hold a piece of paper under it to keep from having a mess) then remove the drum. Inspect the drum. If you have toner on it, there is nothing wrong with the drum, you have a dirty or broken corona wire. If there is nothing on the drum, you may have a dirty or broken charge wire on the drum. If the device has been sitting around a while, the drum could be damaged. Replacement drums are $150. Back to the corona wire if there was image on the drum. These copiers used to ship with a small green cleaning tool inside for the coronal wire which was positioned on the bottom (inside) the copier...going from memory here. This is a thin wire that stretches across, if it is intact, try cleaning it with the cleaning tool, or a cotton swab.

How to clear a code

Sir/Mam
Open close the front door. if it comes back the charge corona wire above the drum or the transfer & separation wires are the problem. The charge wire is above the drum have to remove the drum section to see it they are very thin gold plated wires that place a electrical charge on the drum prior to the image being placed on the drum.

The Transfer and separation wire are directly below the drum Transfer allows the image to be placed on the paper as it comes underneath the drum and above this very thin gold plated wire, The separation wire the second one prevents the paper from sticking to the drum. The xfer/sep assy. wires are located directly under the drum. then are very thin mite be broken. Grounding the High voltage. pull down and pull out the assy. to check it. There is cleaning handle try pushing it back and forth. If they are broke replace tem very carefully. Percission Roller may have them

Code 200

Yes the C0200 code means three things can be wrong.

1. The charge Corona wire is directly above the drum is bad have to remove the drum cartridge to see if it is it is part of the cartridge. 2. The Transfer wire or #3 the separation wire are bad or broken

All 3 of these wires are very thin gold plated because several volts are applied to them during the copy process. #1 place a charge on the Drum #2 ensures the image is transfer to the paper from the drum the #3 wire prevent the paper from sticking to the drum. #2 and #3 are located directly below the drum one mite be broken shorting the HV unit to ground. The code prevent arching and sparking:) The assy. come out push down and out.
See if they are broken and replace or check above the drum #1

Have you attempted to print to the copier? Doing this completely bypasses the optics of the copier and therefore you are able to potentially narrow down the cause of the banding.

On cleaning optics: on the right hand side of the machine, near the top, or on the top, of the scan bed there should be two to four screws that hold a plastic cover in place. After removing the cover you should be able to gently lift the glass up and out of its housing. Using windex or any other sort of glass cleaner on the reflective mirrors will do the trick. However, this does not sound like an optics problem.

Have you inspected either the transfer belt, roller, or transfer corona wires? All of these parts can be accessed from the right side of the machine. Gently clean the thin wires with a rag and some sort of general cleaner.

Brother not printing

Hi John, the machine keeps asking you to clean the corona wire because on start up or especialy when the machine readies it's self to start printing, it passes a voltage through the corona wire which helps the drum erase the charge on the organic photo compound the drum is covered in.
If the machine sees any problem with the transfer of this voltage it thinks there is a problem.
The corona wire can be cleaned by sliding the blue tab on the top of the drum from right to left a few times.
You should check to see if this wire is broken ..it a very thin wire about the thickness of a human hair, if the wire is not broken then try cleaning the thin metal grid below the corona wire with a cotton bud , being carefull not to break the wire.
If this doesnt work then it sounds like the high voltage connection on the drum is faulty, and you will need to purchase a new drum ( or take it back to the supplier and say it is faulty and you want it replaced).
You ould also clean the surface of the drum itself carefully with a soft DRY clean cloth.
The only other cause is the high voltage supply pcb is faulty. Which if the machine is out of warranty is prohibitavely expensive to repair.

Hope this helps

How do i clean carona wire

For a photocopier to work, a field of positive charges must be generated on the surface of both the drum and the copy paper. These tasks are accomplished by the corona wires. These wires are subjected to a high voltage, which they subsequently transfer to the drum and paper in the form of static electricity.

There is arcing from the transfer corona, HV wires underneath the drum these thin wires provide a HV allowing transfer of the image from the drum to the paper, and allow seperation of the paper from the drum. (p/n 5400-2605)
