Question about Garden

4 Answers

I have and echo 210 weed trimmer that started and ran great for 4 years and now it will run for about 5 min then die like it ran out of gas. Sometimes it will start back up and run for a couple more minutes and then die again, sometimes it won't start the second time but the next day the problem starts all over again. I have put a carb kit in it, replaced fuel, fuel lines, fuel grommet, fuel filter, vent, air filter, spark plug and cleaned exhaust screen with not results?

That's one thing I hadn't checked. I will try it today and see?

Went out yesterday and tried it and I can't get in to run at all. Starts but immediately dies when I give it gas? Does have plenty of spark tho.

If it matters, it is a 200 not a 210. Sorry

I don't know if you got my last comment, but I did try it again today and it will start but dies as soon as I give it some gas. And by the way it is a GT200R trimmer not a 210 as I wrote earlier. It does have good spark right now, can't get it to run long enough to check it when it gets warm tho? Most of the time is does run for several minutes just fine, but not since yesterday.

Compression is fine and spark is fine

I went to use it 5 days ago and it wouldn't stay running. The the next day I filled the tank completely full and started it and it ran for 20 minutes with no problem? I started it and ran it every day for the next two days and if ran fine. Today it wouldn't stay running again, and again I filled it completely full of gas and then got it started and it ran for an hour with no problem? I checked to make sure the filter was below gas every time. I am puzzled?

No, it always has good spark.

This was the same problem that started my replacing and rebuilding everything. When it dies, the bulb has fuel in it?

That's the kit I got from echo, and it is the same plug number that was working the previous years. I get a tune up kit every year, that comes with fuel filter, air filter, and spark plug.

Hello kmc.... your weed trimmer is overheating and then dying. this is often due to replacing the original spark plug with a new one which is too hot. do not guess about the spark plug. get REPOWERTM Tune-Up Kit P/N 90074C from ECHO.

Hi,
You didn't mention the spark arrestor, did you check it?
Have you checked the compression of the engine? A quick way to check is to lift the trimmer up by the starter rope. If it sags back a bit, the compression is low. If it gives a good tug, then the compression is good.

If the compression isn't good, you can try filling up with fresh gas and the correct oil/gas ratio and adjust the idle speed up and down a bit.
If this doesn't help, then test the engine with a compression tester.

Looks like you've checked everything else. Good luck.

Hope this helps. If it does, I'd appreciate your vote. Thanks,

    What about the compression?
If the compression is bad, either take it in for engine work or, at the price of trimmers, get a new one.

    Hi kmcjunkin,

Since you've checked everything else. I can only think of a couple of other things to try. First, try taking the muffler off and taking off the spark arrestor, cleaning up the muffler and then running it without the spark arrestor.
Secondly, try running it without the gas cap for ventilation.

What was the problem that caused you to start rebuilding?

Have you tried shooting some quick starter in the carb to check if the fuel is getting to the engine or not?

I would pull the carburetor off and check for dirt in the main jet.

This problem is closed and assumed solved, it has been more then 8 days. Suggest you ask the question again. But bet you are losing fuel due to a clogged carburetor main jet.

The magnito that the spark plug wire runs off from is very weak causing this problem
For the money a new weed trimmer is in store for you
Getting 4 years of service is normal
A new magnito and a carb kit cost you nearly half as much as the whole trimmer
I always purchase a new one about every 3 to 4 years myself for the cost to repair is senseless. It just cost to much for carb and everything else along with the time wasted

I HAVE AN ECHO 200 WEED TRIMMER. THE ENGINE RUNS, BUT DOES NOT TURN THE TRIMMER? CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME.

hello tman.. when the engine runs but the trimmer does not turn it generally means that the slender drive shaft that runs from the engine to the trimmer is broken and must be replaced. Good news is that Echo tools have a 5 year warranty so find an echo dealer and he will fix it or replace it if it is less than 5 years old. joe

CRAFTSMAN WEEDWACKER 316-791860, WILL NOT START. HAS SPARK, FUEL LINES FILL UP, WAS RUNNING FINE, DIED, STARTED NEXT AM, RAN 5 MINS THEN DIED AND WOULDN'T RESTART

Two things which may be the problem: 1) carb need to be rebuilt or replaced, and 2) you need a new spark plug. The carb with shipping is around $50.00 from sears ( http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Craftsman-Parts/Grass-trimmer-weed-wacker-Parts/Model-3167918602008/0247/1503820/P0805032/00001?blt=06&prst=&shdMod= ) A sparkplug can be had at any small engine repair shop and most auto parts stores for less than $5.00 Start with the cheap solution... Also make certain you have fresh gas and that the oil mix is correct.

Weed eater won't run

Sounds like you may just have a dirty carburetor.

Youwill need to disassemble the carburetor and spray with carb.cleaner.Make sure the small screen is free of debris. (Should be able to seedaylight through it.)

Use a Den Tek Brush, (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=165357&catid=1152),to clean the small portals in carb. These portals can become blocked. Reassemble and start.

If the carb. parts are more than 4 years old, you may have to replace them.

If you need further assistance, just let me know.

Weed eater starts, runs 5 min. then cuts off

The gas cap may be clogged.

The next time you run the trimmer and it starts to die, loosen the gas cap. If it starts running again, then you know that it's a clogged gas cap.

You may also check the air breather, it may be dirty as well.

Just let me know if you need further assistance.

Husqvarna 323L gas trimmer runs & starts great but looses power after 10-15 min and if you give it gas it dies. let it cool and it runs great for another 10-15min. trimm has less than 5 hours

You have a clogged gas cap. Try this: The next time you run your trimmer and it starts to die, loosen the gas cap. It should start running again. It sounds too good to be true, doesn't it?! Well, give it try. Clear the breathing holes form debris, or buy a new gas cap.
