I turn on my gps and it says no map data available unable to use device

Question: What should I do if my Garmin nuvi or zumo displays the message "No Detailed Maps Found That Support Routing" or "No Map Data Available?"
--> Answer: The "No Detailed Maps Found That Support Routing" or "No Map Data Available" message may appear on your device for the following reasons:

• The GPS device is missing it's unlock code
• The maps on the GPS device have been disabled

To determine the cause of the message, touch the screen until the message "No Detailed Maps Found That Support Routing" disappears.

• If you see a "Can't Unlock Maps" message following this error, remove any microSD / SD cards in the device and follow the instructions below for Retrieving your unlock codes followed by the instructions for Creating an unlock file

• If you do not get the Can't Unlock Maps message then skip to the instructions for Enabling maps on the GPS device

Retrieving your unlock codes:

1. Log into your myGarmin account
2. Select Manage Maps
3. Select Details
4. The unlock code is located under the Installed Maps.

You map may of been turned off. If so. Go into your Tools menu. Then Settings. Then Map. Then Choose Map Info. Make sure that there is a check mark beside the map name. If there is no map listed you should contact Garmin for assistance. www.garmin.com

it may just be that the maps are deselected. to correct this go into the tools/settings/map and then at the bottom of the screen in the middle you will see map info tap that and then at the next screen it will show you the maps which are installed if there are any without ticks just tap the box. tap ok and try again if. if there are no map choices then you will need to reinstall the maps on your unit

Make sure you have the file gmapprom.img on your Nuvi. It sounds like you just have the base map file.

are your maps unlocked when you bought the GPS? try registering the product on garmin website... it should unlock the maps...

Did you try to perform a map upgrade to 2008? Turn on the Garmin and from the main menu touch the wrench, then press Map, then look for Map info.

the site changed their limits and I am unable to post. I have instead listed the upgrade dvd on ebay with the upgrade files and map data as well as instrucitons...

This will show the the current map version installed

You deleted your previous maps, therefore there are no maps on the unit. Try reloading the maps again and this time let it continue all the way to the end. It will take a couple of hours depending on loading all maps or only certain states.
