Hello,

To remove the impeller, first remove the housing cover. There are about six botls holding this on. You then need to remove the motor housing cover from the other end. There are three small screws holding this on.

With the motor cover off you can see the other end of the shaft. You mayhave to remove or at least loosen some things on the end of the shaft to get a wrench on it. The shaft is flattened on two sides and it should take a 7/16" (I think that is the right size)wrench. Use that to hold the shaft and then unscrew the impeller by hand.

It should unscrew the conventional way (anti-clockwise). COUNTER-CLOCKWISE

I am guessing you want to replace the seal. Don't make the same mistake I just did. I got the two pieces reversed and it nearly melted my impeller shaft. Talk about a pain. Now I need a new seal and a new impleller.

Its dead easy if you get it right. Good luck.

The black grafite and the white ceramic parts of the seal touch

Thanks

Remove impeller pool pump

look to make sure there is no ***** in the center of the impeller, if so, it loosens to the right. the impeller will come off by turning it to the left (facing the impeller) if you still have trouble with the impeller, search your area for your ''local pool pump motor repair guy'' with free testing.
he should be able to save the impeller and install a new seal for around $20.
remember to prime the pump with water after any repair !

Need to remove the impeller

Turn off the system at the breaker,
Undo bolts for housing and separate the motor from the pump to access the impeller. Some styles of motors have a screw that is reverse threaded holding the impeller in place, if it has one , remove the screw. Once you have access to the impeller you can use a big pair of channel locks to turn the impeller. Take off the back cover of the motor or remove the plastic or metal cap that is covering the shaft. Use a wrench to hold the back end of the shaft as you unscrew the impeller.

I need to know how to tape the impeller off. i was told that i had to pull the pump apart in order to remove the impeller????

You do not supply much information, but yes, the impeller sits right inside a pump housing, Split the housing and the impeller is the vaned part that is attached to the shaft, the pump rear casing will have remained behind. The should be a nut holding the impeller in place and it may very well be a left hand threaded nut. Remove the nut and the impeller will come off with a little coaxing. Some impellers are press fitted and may need a puller to remove.

For an impeller really stuck on the motor shaft you need to pull the motor thru-bolts and remove the rotor with the pump still attached from the stator. Lock the rotor in a vice and turn the impeller off with a large set of channel locks or a large strap wrench.

Pump disassembly

I removed the impeller on my DW761UQB. The instructions were molded into the plastic pump housing. This is how I DID MINE: Remove motor mount screws. Remove the chopper screw (screw only goes into impeller, not motor shaft). Remove chopper and rotate/remove strainer. Place socket or wrench on impeller tip and place another wrench on rear of motor's plastic fan. Unscrew fan from impeller shaft ( threads are LEFT handed, turn CW). Once fan is 'backed off' of the impeller, CAREFULLY pry the motor/fan from pump housing (impeller is attached to motor shaft via splines). Don't crack the delicate plastic pump housing. Mine was stuck, but separated with moderate force. Now remove the impeller/seals from the pump housing. This worked for MY above mentioned model, I don't know what other models it applies to. I am not a pro.
