Question about Pentair Minimax NT Heater

1 Answer

I have a Pentair Minimax NT 250k electronic heater. Turned the heater on today and it does not get through startup sequence. It flashes - - -, then flashes 888 (with red service light), then back to - - -, 888, and so on. Per the Pentair sight, this is the startup sequence. No error codes. I have turned it off and on again, turned the breaker off and back on, won't get out of this sequnce. No error codes.

I would say the problem is the thermistor. The board will light up, the SW switch is green, but you get a display that flashes dashed lines and then what looks like 888. That is a start up code. The thermistor is located on the side where the water enters the heater. There are two screws at the top of the side panel. Undo the screws and lift the panel off. The thermistor is a probe with 2 small wires coming out and lead to the control panel. It is a very simple fix and is usually the problem if you have not experienced any other issues. The part runs between 30 and 45 dollars. Most pool stores would carry this.
thanks let me know if that fixed the problem

Thank you 1shadwell. This is exactly what the problem ended up being. I had talked to a few service technicians and they thought it was either the blower or the board. Both of these would have been extremely costly and I figured we would just go without heat. I had read about the thermistor but both technicians on the phone didn't think that was the problem as they said I would get an error code, which I wasn't. I decided to replace the sensor myself "just in case", and it worked. Again, thank you.

I have a Pentair minimax 250k electronic. Opened pool today and when I turned power on to the heater, it won't get through startup sequence. Dashed lines flash, then 888 and service light comes on. ...

Most of the time I have found the problem to be the thermistor. It is located on the water manifold of the heater. Usually the panel lights, flashes then to 888 and back to dashed lines. SW light is green, and service light is red. It costs 25 to 45 dollars, and takes 5 minutes to repair. New thermistor looks identical to old so replacing it is very easy.
thanks please let me know if this was helpful

try cycling the power to the heater itself. Check for damage (pack rats, etc..). It sounds like you may have had a direct short. It could be a board problem or a transformer problem. If you're still getting the service heater light, check to see if any diagnostic LED is illuminated behind the board.

Pentair Minimax NT 400 heater. fan keeps coming

Sounds like the controller is the problem. This is the circuit board that has the display and controls on it. You can swing that panel open and try tapping on the white plastic cover the controller is under that. This might get the fan relay to release but you will have to replace the controller it will stick again
