the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

Want to restore to factory settings. running windows 7 ultimate

Anonymous,
There are a couple of ways to Restore the system to the factory image. It depends on the system. Some older systems you would start the computer and press CNTRL+F11 and choose to restore. Other systems you would start the computer and TAP the F8 key and choose "Repair Your Computer" and follow the prompts to restore. Newer systems use a program called Dell Datasafe Local Backup accessed from the F8 advanced menu.
Thank You,

Want to restore dell 9400 inspiron to factory settings ,.forgot hardware reset pass word, i disconeected memory battery while replacing kry pad

Hi,

I you restore your laptop to factory settings, all data and software installed would be lost. i f you are fine with that or u have backed up the data already, follow the below process:

I have assumed that you have windows vista or windows 7:
  • Power off the laptop. Remove any peripheral devices such as speakers, printers or flash drives that are not necessary to this operation. Power on the laptop while holding down the "F8" key until the advanced boot options menu appears.
  • Move the arrow key to "Repair Your Computer." Hit the "Enter" key.
  • Select the language settings to be used for the recovery process with the arrow keys and hit "Next." Log in, if necessary. Press "Next."
  • Choose "Dell Factory Image Restore" OR "Complete PC restore" to restore the drive's original factory settings, and click on "Next."
  • Check the box next to the "Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition" option. Select "Next" and the computer will recover itself based on its configuration settings in the recovery partition.
This will take your computer on the day you bought it. You will get all application back which were pre-installed and will loose everything which you put by yourself.

Cheers!!!

Dell inspiron 1525 laptop. I need to restore to factory settings. I follow instructions. Does not work. I hit F8 like dell says and before it starts up it take me to reboot screen. Then I hit repair...

It sounds like you've either erased the partition where Dell stores this restoration, or someone else has. The only way to get this back to manufactured state is to request a disc from Dell or re-install the OS.

How to reset to factory default without disc

Step 1. First you will have to restart your computer.

Step 2. During bootup, continuously press the F8 key and you will see the Advanced Boot Options menu.
note.gif OTE: You must press the <F8> key before the Windows logo appears on the screen. If you press <F8> after the Windows logo appears on the screen, the Advanced Boot Options menu will not appear on the screen. If you do not see the Advanced Boot Options menu, restart the computer, and then repeat this step until you see the menu on the screen.
Step 3. Select the the Repair your Computer option and hit Enter

Step 4. You will be asked about language and to log on as an Administrator.

Step 5. You will then select Dell Factory Image Restore
Step 6. Select the checkbox for "Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition"

Step 7. Click next and the computer will begin the system restore process which may take some time.

Step 8. When it is finished you will be prompted to restart you machine.

Big issues with Vista on my Inspiron!

Did you try to "Restore this computer to another point in time"? Then you press F8, and choose "System Restore" then another screen asks if you want to go to safe desktop, or do a system restore, when you select system restore, another window, a bit like a calendar, and you choose a date prior to when you had problems?
Otherwise, please try this... when dell screen comes up on keyboard hit CTRL+ F11 twice only then you will see Dell pc restore by Symantec.Hit on restore and hit on i agree and select the option Restore the pc to dell factory settings and then it will restore the pc.
Otherwise you will have to obtain a Windows Vista install DVD, boot on this and repair/reinstall from That.. anyway try whats proposed and get back to me..

I am trying to restore my computer to original state. Was told to use Ctrl F11. This doesn't to anthing. Help

don't hit ctrl f11 instead hit F8 and then go into Dell Factory Image Restore, that will wipe, format and reinstall all the factory software that's stored on the Recovery Drive.

or reformat your laptop using your cd

Okay, do as follows.

(a) Boot the computer. When you see a blue bar with www.dell.com on the screen, hit Ctrl + F11.
(b) On the next screen, click "Restore".
(c) Next, click "Confirm".
(d) Let the restore process run. It will probably take 10-ish minutes. Don't touch it while it's doing it's thing.
(e) When prompted, click "Finish" to reboot the computer.
(f) When prompted, click "Yes".
(g) When prompted, click "Next".
(h) After the computer restarts, click "OK".
