For regular vacumming with these Hayward pool filters, you will use the regular filter setting. If you have a very dirty pool or heavy loads of debris, vacuum on the waste setting so that the debris will bypass the filter and not clog or litter it.

SOURCE: d.e. earth pool filter returning dirt to pool

The flow tubes inside the filter canister are torn and letting dirt pass. The repair is simple and can be done by someone with a few hand tools. Download the manual for the filter here:www.haywardnet.com/products/Manuals/pdfs/manual9.pdf

You'll only need to replace the ones that are ripped, and the cost runs about $3 - $5 each. Search around on Google for a supplier or try a local pool dealer.

SOURCE: while vacuuming my pool, valve

Hi, my name is John I will do my best to assist you.

Normally the valve head on these sand filters has a selection for "Pump To Waste" this is the setting that should be used when vacuuming. The pump water will flow out the backwash hose/line so that the contaminated water does not flow through the filter and back into the pool.

A lot of water is pumped out using this process, so it's a good idea to have a water hose refilling the pool while you work. Unless you can work quickly you may not be able to completely clean the entire pool at one time. Pay attention to the water level, and when it drops to the low level mark on the skimmer stop and wat for it to refill.

The "Filter" selection is typically intended for normal pump circulation only.

If you have more specific questions please post comments to this thread and I will endeavor to monitor new activity and respond as soon as possible. I recommend that you "bookmark", or "add to favorites" this page for your convenience.

the vacuum you are using is probably the best for the system you have. if you want a REAL pool vacuum, get a REAL pool. there is a reason that these are considered disposable pools. dont get me wrong, any way to cool off is great and these pools allow people this 'luxury' at a reasonable cost but they are assembled with low end, non standardized equipment that doesnt match with traditional pool equipment.

I put my Hayward ST180T on rinse to vacuum the pool and I ended up with sand in the pool what happen?

You are using the wrong setting to vacuum. This type of pool filter should be set to "filter" for normal vacuuming or to "waste" for heavy loads. The "rinse" setting makes sure that all of the dirty water is out of your filter after backwashing.

When vacuuming my pool, the dirt, etc. is not filtered out and just recirculates into the pool

Normally, you set your pool filters setting to "filter" when you vacuum. Is this the setting you are using? If that doesn't seem to be working or your pool is especially dirty, change the valve to "waste" and operate with the cleaner on that setting. That will bypass your filter entirely. If this works, it could be that your filter is dirty and needs to be backwashed or have the sand changed.

I dont know which setting to put the filter on when i vacuum my pool...it is a s166t series...also i cannot get the pool to stay clear...any suggestions

You vacuum in the regular filter setting; as for clear water you'll need to look at your overall water chemistry and/or take a water sample to the location where you get your chemicals and see what they have to say about your alkalinity, chlorine, pH and other readings.

We have a hayward 244t sand filter. I was trying to learn how it works. I was trying to vacuum the pool but all the trash is coming back into the pool. What do I do?

For regular vacuuming, these pool filters should be set to the "filter" setting filter control valve. However, if you have a heavy load or the debris seems to be coming back into the water, you can try vacuuming with the filter set to the "waste" position. This will bypass the filter and vacuum directly out to waste.

While vacuuming my swimming pool and the valve setting is on filter, the dirty water is returning into the pool. Ive just changed a brand new spider gasket, replaced #20 silica sand. Did i miss anything...

Try changing the setting on your pool filters control valve to waste. This will bypass the filter and vacuum directly to waste. If this works, it could be a problem with the filter's "filter" setting and you may need to service or replace your control valve.

What setting should I have my Hayward Sand Filter system on when I am vacumming out my pool?

Your pool filter should be set on "filter" for normal vacuuming. If you have a heavy debris load or an extremely dirty pool, you might want to vacuum with the "waste" setting, if your filter has one.
