you have a "suffix" programmed into the barcode scanner. this is a common feature and allows for auditing (like a user signature) these can be removed, The code book should have pages of option programming barcodes, in which you should be able to find a section on programming prefixes and suffixes, there should be a control barcode which clears all suffixes. This should solve your problem

The "Beep" just means that the scanner has been presented with a valid barcode. (nothing more) The scanner has probably not been set up correctly as this is a common issue. the settings need to be set correctly for your environment. you should have a code book with some bar codes in (part of the manual) which can set all the options within the scanner, There is an option to recall defaults here is the electronic manual ftp://ftp.metrologic.com/pub/download/productmanuals/00-02544.pdf

SOURCE: I can't programmed my IT3800LR
Jaquino, there is a programming bar code to reset the device to factory settings in the user guide. I know you said that it is reading other bar codes like they are not programming bar codes, but have you tried this bar code? Usually it works, even when the device is totally hosed, unless there is some kind of hardware failure.
Here's the link to the Quick Start from the company website:
The factory reset bar code is on printed page 4 of the PDF document.

If you're sure that the barcode is correct then ignore the following.
Otherwise, download a free barcode font and install.
1. Open up wordpad .. and type any number say "12345", and then convert it by choosing the barcode font.
2. Print out the barcode (usually at least 26pt)
3. Leave wordpad as the active window and scan the barcode
4. "12345" should be inserted into the wordpad document.
Now you know that it works.
This should work on the default setting of most scanners.
