Question about LG WD-3243RHD Front Load Washer / Dryer

1 Answer

New Garbage disposal, washing machine and dishwasher won't work.

Hi,

I recently installed a new garbage disposal, and it seems to have caused two new problems. The garbage disposal works, as does the water going to the sink and the bathroom. I followed the instructions exactly (or so I think) when installing the disposal. However, now

1) The washing machine, which is located in the kitchen, next to the sink, only makes it about 10 minutes into the cycle before making a grinding sound. The door locks. To restart, I have to drain the water from the drum using the drain at the front bottom of the machine. Once I drain it, it works again for about ten minutes and then everything starts over. The Washing machine is an LG WD-3243RHD or LG WD-3245RHD. It is not connected directly to the sink or garbage disposal, but I am sure there is a connection somewhere.

2) The dishwasher does not work - though the power turns on and it makes noise, it sounds like the water is not making it into the system. It is connected to the garbage disposal. I did remove the plastic (with a hammer) between the line that goes to the dishwasher and the garbage disposal. I haven't tried the dishwasher after emptying the water from the washing machine.

Can anyone help? Thanks for any information that you can provide.

Does not sound like these problems are directly related to the disposer. Grinding sound is most likely the impeller on the washer's pump. The washer gets to the first pump out and is unable to pump due to bad impeller or an obstruction. Bad impeller means replace pump motor. (not very hard) Check water supply to dishwasher. Valve turned off or line kinked? Filter screen at solonoid valve plugged?

When we turn the garbage disposal on the water backs up into the fisher Paykel dishwasher. What do we need to do to fix this?

Replumb the outlet for the dishwasher into a different drainpipe. The installer put your dishwasher outlet onto your garbage grinder outlet.
If there is only one drain pipe under your sink then things get difficult.
You can try to lift the outlet hose from the washing machine a little bit but that might cause problems in your dishwasher.
A backflow valve on your dishwasher outlet might work if there is one available.

Check you drain is not blocked slighty (highly likely with a garbage disposal) and causing back pressure. Draino; Boiling Hot water; bicarb and vinegar,

Was it working properly a while ago?

Doesn't drain

If the dishwasher won't drain, the drain pump might be defective. Test the pump motor with an Ohm meter. Drain pumps are not repairable, if it's defective it will need to be replaced.
HERE ARE SOME OTHER COMMON CAUSES:
H Drain impeller. The drain impeller is attached to the pump and pushes the water out of the dishwasher through the drain tube and into the garbage disposer or drain line. If the dishwasher won't drain, the drain impeller might be broken or worn out. Replace both the impeller and seal at the same time.
Drain Solenoid Kit. The drain solenoid kit might need to be replaced. The drain solenoid is an actuator that opens a flap to allow the water to drain.
Drain Valve. The drain valve can get clogged with debris and should be cleaned out if the dishwasher won't drain. If it seems clear of debris but won't actuate, it will need to be replaced.
Clogged or Improperly Installed Garbage Disposer. If the dishwasher won't drain and the garbage disposer was installed recently, the installer might have forgotten to knock out the drain plug from this disposer. All garbage disposers are sold with a solid plug in the drain tube for situations where a dishwasher isn't connected. However, if the dishwasher is connected, the plug needs to be removed. If the disposer wasn't replaced recently, remove the dishwasher drain hose from the disposer and clean out both the fitting on the disposer and the end of the drain hose. These are the most common places to find an obstruction if the dishwasher won't drain.
Check Valve. The check valve might be stuck closed. The check valve is a small plastic device which prevents water from returning to the dishwasher after it has drained. If the valve gets stuck closed, it will prevent the water from draining. The check valve is the device that the drain hose is attached to on the dishwasher.
Check Ball. The check ball might be stuck. The check ball is a small plastic ball in the check valve which prevents water from returning to the dishwasher after it has drained. If the ball gets stuck, it will prevent the water from draining also. The check valve is the device that the drain hose is attached to on the dishwasher.

Water will not drain. I did have a new garbage disposer installed a couple of days ago, but don't know enough about dishwashers to even see where it connects to the disposer.

Hi Ruthp53, I am JK. I see that you have installed a new garbage disposal and now are having problems with your dishwasher (model FGHD2433KF) draining. I would recommend checking for blockage at garbage disposal and the drain. Also, new garbage disposables normally have a plug that will need to be taken out.
Hope this helps!

Won't drain water

New installation? Do you have a garbage disposal, there is a pluged port on the garbage disposal. Is the drain hose free to move, not crushed or twisted, Please provide model name and number.

It sound like while the assembly of the garbage disposal, you placed the end of the drain line pipe in a lower position than it was before. Good luck!
