Question about Philips PD7012/37 Player

2 Answers

I went to US a couple months ago and I bought Philips model PD9012/37, dual car model. The DVD player only plays Region 1 and I live in a Region 4 (Brazil). Is it possible to unlock it to region free? Tks Sergio

Looks like no one has a specific code for your dvd player. Have you tried the manufacture?

I don't know if this one helps but I did find this when I typed in your model

On the blue screen push the buttons in the front of the screen in this sequence: up, down, up, down, up, up, down. Than will appear the menu where have how to change the region code.

I tried combination from other model and it worked fine!
    1. Turn on player.
    2. Open disc tray.
    3. Press setup button on remote.
    4. Press right button three times to highlight "preference page" (I had it
    as "Custom")
    5. Type 9 6 5 3 on remote
    6. Press up or down button to change the region code ("0" for all
    regions) (I confirmed with OK)
    7. Press setup again to exit

If so, firmware version of your set may be different. This hack will work with sets have only NTSC system. Being a PAL/NTSC compactable, the firmware will be different. That is why, I infromed you to just try only. I also was not sure. You have to connect philips website for details. OK.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_code

"The commercial DVD player specification requires that a player to be sold in a given place not play discs encoded for a different region".

If you don't live in Region 1 and you know most DVD's ARE Region 1, it would make sense that some care should be taken to buy DVD's compatible with YOUR region.

The DVD you're using is probably from elsewhere than the region you live in. It is almost certainly possible to temporarily change the region by using a trick which will not damage your machine in any way. Google "Philips DVP642 region hack" and there will be an answer.

Philips DCP750/37 shows "wrong region"

Australian players are designed only to play Region 4 discs. United States discs are Region 1. It is illegal to change the Region code on a DVD player, so I can't tell you how to do it (ironically, it is the most frequently asked question about dvd players on Fixya.com - global world), but there are videos on YouTube that will show you how to do it - I would just enter "philips region code dvd" as your seacrh term. You won't find that exact model, but one of the codes in the video should work. Note that you will only be able to change the region code three times on a Philips - after that you will be locked out. So change it to Region 1 once, and never change it again.
