Question about Zanussi Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a washer/dryer, front loading, that is about 15 years old. I live in Hong Kong and the machine has a Fortress label on it (a local store), but also says "made in Italy". Model number EW 800 I. I would love to have a manual but can't find one anywhere. There are two buttons I don't understand: One says 850/500. The other says 1/2. I am guessing that the 850/500 has to do with maximum spin speed? I would think that the 1/2 button has to do with small loads. However the strange thing is that the dryer will not operate unless I push the 1/2. If you can provide additional help, the big selection knob is calibrated as A thru F, G thru L (letters J and K are not used), and N thru M. It would be very helpful to know what each type of cycle does. Thanks in advance.

That manual is readily available on the internet with a google search and I had already looked at it. The machine in the manual is not like the one I have at all. That is only a washer, mine is a washer/dryer combination. The cycles are completely different. I am looking for a manual (or someone's information) that will describe the controls on my unit, particularly the cycles, as well as the interraction between the 1/2 button and the dryer.

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly

This is actually a Zanussi machine per the model number.

Go to this link:
http://www.serviceforce.co.uk/pdfs/U02203.pdf

Once the file opens you can save it to your computer.
Everything in the manual appears to match up except the 850 / 500 numbers which are probably the spin speeds for a 230V machine vs a 120V machine being 400 and 800 RPM spin speeds.

For sure the 1/2 button is for a half load. This is a 3.5 Kg load machine so a 1/2 load would be 1.75 Kg.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Unfortunately that is the same manual I would have to use to do in-home repair of your machine as there is no other cross reference anywhere .

I checked Whirlpool Artison AEG Indecit Electrolux, Zanussi sevice manuals (Global) anything remotely related to EW800 service manuals via the servicer / service networks, and Fortress HK website. I do not have access to Fortress service manuals as I am not a franchised servicer for Fortress HK. The only HK parts sources I could find only had the timer knob for the EW800. There were no manuals or ANY other parts for sale.

The best answer I can recommend is for you to contact Fortress HK using the following link and see if they can help you:

Are my washer and dryers able to be stacked?

if they are both front load, you can stack them, but you probably will have to have a special stand made, and a ladder to reach the controls. If you have a HE front load washer, it would not be worth stacking, because it will break and it will be harder to repair. But most likely you will buy a new one once you find out how much it costs to repair a HE front load washer. They may save water, but they run twice as long and do not clean as good and will break and the repair will cost likely cost as much as the washer. Either a circuit board will burn up or the rear bearing will go bad. The larger capacity the faster the bearing will wear out. If you just bought it, I would send it back and buy a top load commercial machine or front load, but not in a box store. I got 28 years from my old model and my dryer is over 30 years and never had a problem and still looks new. If you get 5 or 10 years from a front load, consider yourself lucky

Many black stuff came out in danby washing machine

All front loaders use very little water, they are required a cleaner to be run for a cycle some every month , some others every 3 months , cleaners are sold at most stores or hardware stores, depending where you live. Try "Washer Magic" or check the laundry section at your closest Wal mart.
