Here are some steps that you can use to try to resolve the issue. 1. Turn off the console, disconnect all the cables, and then reconnect all the cables. Turn the console back on. 2. Turn off the console, and then disconnect any accessories that are connected. For example, disconnect any Xbox 360 controllers, Xbox 360 Memory Units, and the Xbox 360 Hard Drive. With the accessories disconnected, restart the console to see whether the problem still occurs. This can help you determine whether the console or an accessory is experiencing the problem.
If this doesn't work, call MS and explain all this to them. If they do not offer to fix it for free then you can try repairing it yourself or selling it and getting a new one. If you opt to repair it yourself, let me know and I will give you some advice and resources. Good luck!!

Our Xbox error is E74 what is that

AV cable error... There is a problem with the AV cable, try using a different AV cable. If the cable is known to be working then there is a 90% chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip connected directly to the AV cable) in rare cases it is the GPU. Check the AV cable. If the problem persists, send it in to microsoft https://service.xbox.com if you don't have a warranty you will be charged to fix it, but you will receive a new 1 year warranty and a new 3 year RRoD warranty.

E74 error is mostly caused AV cable failure, try using a different AV cable.
If the cable is known to be working then there is a 90% chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip connected directly to the AV cable) in rare cases it is the GPU.In that case you should contact Microsoft and you would have to pay them if you are off warranty.

A red light has come on the lower right of the power switch wiv the error code E74

if the unit was purchased less than three years ago you can still get it covered under warranty as addressed on microsoft by clicking here. this is actually a serious problem and effects a few consoles, much like the RROD
if it is not under warranty you can try doing this and i stress the not. Make sure of this by calling microsoft before attempting this. if you do not want to do the overheat fix i suggest either A. find a company that fixes xbox's and provides a real reflow. Not a heatgun and a fan. But a actual infrared reflow station. or B. Send it to microsoft and pay the money to get it repaired. or C. sell it on your local craigslist or to someone that repairs them locally and use the money to buy a new xbox 360 slim or a used xbox 360 that is working but then someone might have already done the overheat trick and it may not have much life left.

i have done this before and after he 2nd time i sent it to a company to reflow the xbox for 30 dollars. An i havent had a problem since. remember what is done in the video is only if your not covered under the extended warranty or e74

My xbox has the red ring of death, how do i fix it?

If you get Red Ring of Death you need to first check how may red rings are you getting and do you see any error message on screen with red ring or the console does not start at all

When there is a general hardware failure. While this can be caused by any part(or lack thereof) on the 360, the general cause is from excessive heat, which stresses the solder joints on the CPU and GPU

What Do The Red Light Errors Mean?
  • 1 light means you have had general hardware failure. If you to send it in to get it repaired, without a warranty would cost. Not to mention it can take up to a month for you to get your system back.
  • 2 lights mean your console is over heating---TURN IT OFF NOW TO AVOID SERIOUSLY DAMAGING YOUR SYSTEM!
  • 3 lights also mean general hardware failure.
  • 4 lights simply mean there is a problem with the AV cable. Check the connection and replace if necessary.
basically when you get a RRoD you can try cleaning the connection point of your AV cable but if it does not work please send it to MS Support for repairs, i had 3 Red light problem and with error message E74 i send it Microsoft Support as my console was under warranty

XBOX 360 - E74 WITH ONE RED LIGHT

Usually when the AV is disconnected all four lights flash red. Cheapest thing to do first is try another AV cord.

However, it's possible that your 360 has been refurbished and the hardware has the chip in a warped position.

If it isn't the AV cable:
You can order a kit for RROD on ebay for about $7.00. Same hardware as what you'd need.
What you have to do is replace the hardware (x clamp) on the video chip the same way it's done when an xbox gets the RROD. reheat the chip so that it connects again by letting it run for about 5-7 minutes with the fan disconnected, turn it off again, wait about 30 seconds and then turn it back on. I fix 360's with this error code at least 3 times a week.

In some cases after doing the clamp trick you will get RROD. No worries, just follow the proccess above and everything will run smoothly.

If you have a snapped AV cable/HDMI cable then try getting anonther one from your local gaming store. If you have had the E74 error then contact MS support for assistance. Its not covered under the free 3 year warranty but if your xbox is less than a year old it can be repaired for free or replaced. Your hard drive will stay with you though. The bottom right quadrant should illuminate red, I have this problem with one of my xbox 360s & it is worse than RROD. If it isn't the AV cable its the GPU or CPU broken

I have an error message e74 and one red ring

I suggest going to xbox.com/support/repair

If its not the AV cable then its a 90% chance its the scaler chips (ANA & HANA chips). In some rare cases its the GPU or CPU which means even Microsoft can't repair it. I have the same problem on one of my xbox 360s & its not covered by the RROD extended warranty. Do a little research & you'll helping people like me.
