I need to download MEM48U driver for WinXP but I do not want to go through 3rd party "driver wizard" software (heard these things can be dangerous . What do you recommend?

There are several 3rd party programs you can download for free to take webcam pics. I like using Debut on my HP laptop. You can get the free download link here.

The Memorex site is terrible! That page only has the PDF manual. For drivers it links to http://www.artecusa.com/tech-support.html which is domain-squatted and has nothing but ads! Memorex's own home page leads to numerous 404's if you try to search for support!

So I Googled Artec, and ended up here, with a Mem48U driver:

It matches a file I found on a 3rd party site, one of those drive download sites. Here's the md5 and file name for future reference:

It works! I did not run the setup.exe, instead I plugged in the scanner and told WinXP what folder to find the driver in.

First you need to make sure that you don't have the scanner plugged up. install the software through the disk that came with the scanner. when you have the scanner software fully installed (including drivers) you need to plug up the scanner. if the "New Hardware" notification doesn't show up you need to right click "My Computer" and select manage. Next you need to select device manager. from there you should see a "?" or an "!". click to view these unknown devices. you should see your scanner, select the scanner and you will get a new window. choose the driver tab. finally you need to choose the "update driver" option. then follow the step by step instructions in order to finish the installation of your scanner. please rate me i want to know if i was of any help.

get the winXP driver MEMu1.50 (still available), there are no Vista drivers. Run the installation using WinXP emulation in Vista. You must run the installation as if you are in XP, not necessary when using the scanner subsequently. Now the Memorex 48u works on a Dell Dimension, running Windows Vista Home Premium. Hope this helps. I got the scannner for $14 after rebates at Staples years ago, it won't die.

Just a suggestion, try to update your drivers.. If you have installed any third party cd burner just uninstalled it. after uninstalling, clean the registry via ccleaner, regcure, or any other 3rd party cleaner... then update your drivers... most of the 3rd party cd burner software are damaging your cd drivers...
