I'm assuming you are connecting the laptop to the plasma screen with an HDMI cable. If you have done so, then have both the TV and laptop turned on. Log into the laptop with an account. After you have logged in, you can press the function key (Fn) and usually its F4 (the key has a picture of a square, this represents the external display connection) at the same time. The plasma tv should display what is on the laptop.
So, Fn + F4 should work.

My HP Pavilion dv9000 Laptop powers up but screen stays black. Keyboard lights up and you can here the computer running.

Connect it to an external monitor to see if it shows video. If it does the display panel needs to be replaced. If it doesn't show video the video card is most likely malfunctioning. The HP dv series are bad about having video problems due to heat and depleted thermal grease.Hopefully it will show video on the external monitor.

Got a hp dv 6000 power on but screen display is

Sleep mode was originally implemented simply as a screen saver. In order to resolve the above issue you need to press CTL, ALT, DEL keys. As it awakens the computer and returns back to the Desktop screen and normal operation without rebooting your pc.

HP Pavilion dv9000 Entertainment PC shows a black screen and nothing else when it is turned on...warranty expired in March 09. HP said not under warranty anymore and to take it to get serviced.

Try and hook it up to an external monitor by using a vga cable. If there is a problem with the main display, the laptop will drive an external automatically. I have to tell you though that these laptops are notorious for burning out the video processors in them. If that happens to be the case, you will need a new motherboard. The one good thing about that is that there are instances where the motherboard from a dv6000 and the dv9000 can be interchangeble depending on the model. If you do get a picture on the external display then you may have just lost the screen and they can be changed out by just taking the bezel off the screen and disconnecting screws and cables. I have a 3 year old hp pavilion dv9000. For 3

Quite often this is caused by someone changing the display type. There should be a function key control that allows you to view just your lcd display, an external display, or both. Try and change that setting and see if it will resolve your issue.

I want to use an external monitor

You have to tell the laptop to use that port. It is usually the Function Key and one of the FKeys. Look for a blue (the usual color for functions) monitor symbol.

Press it 1 time = signal to only the ext port
2 times = both the laptop screen and the ext port
3 times = back to the laptop screen only

Monitor

what kind of monitor are you connect the laptop to???
LCD or regular monitor???? I assume there is no LCD connector on theDV9000, it it must be VGA monitor, if that is the case, you need to change the display in the control panel, display.
also, you may need to get the monitor driver from the web to enable the DV9000 to display the correct resolution.
