Question about Danby DWC283BLS Wine Cooler

1 Answer

Recently, the wine fridge has started to make a whirrring sound that lasts around 4 or 5 seconds, then stops for around 20 or 30 seconds, then starts whirrrring again. Sounds a bit like a man moaning. RRRRRrrrrrrrrrrr.........RRRRRrrrrrrrrr..... I don't mind trying to fix it, but don't know what parts to order? Can you help?

it was the internal fan in the upper rear section of the fridge. Apparently, since it is mounted so close to the rear panel, the sound seems to amplify from the back. Anyway, a replacement fan was only $3.71 direct from Danby, but I did have to pay 7.99 for shipping. Also, there is a fair amount of disassembly and re-assembly needed, which might be challenging for those who don't typically make their own repairs. Once removed, the only thing I could find wrong with our old fan was that the shaft was very loose in the unit, which may have indicated a bad bearing.

Emerson model#CR519B. The unit just stopped working. If plugged in a motor runs for about 8 seconds and clicks off; about a minute later it repeats. Help

I had the same problem with a small wine cooler. It happened to me twice in 6 years. Both times I had to replace the starter relay.

I couldn't find any repair facilities willing to work on these small wine coolers or refrigerators, probably because the bill would be more than the used fridge is worth. If you feel confident around a volt/ohm meter and electricity, you could learn how to test this and maybe fix it yourself.

You shouldn't do any of this if you aren't familiar with using a Volt/Ohm meter and can safely and confidently work around electricity.:

  1. Unplug the fridge
  2. I first tested the compressor with an Ohm Meter (see how with youtube video below or by reading how at Davesrepair.com). It was good, but it kept starting and stopping within a few seconds.
  3. Basically my starter capacitor/relay wasn't working. It supplies temporary starting voltage to the starter relay in the compressor, then cuts off to allow the motor to run.
  4. I bought a Supco 3-in-1 on Amazon for less than $13 and hooked it up according to the supplied instructions. It lasted about 3 years.
Of course, the factory recommended repair is to buy the original replacement relay, but it will be more costly and harder to find.

I bought a Supco 3 in 1 Hard Start relay sized for the HP on my compressor. Mine was the Supco RCO810 (see link below).

NOTE: Before I replaced the starter relay and overload protection with a Supco 3 in 1, I learned how to test the compressor with a Volt/Ohm meter. If you don't have a meter, you can buy them online or inexpensive to free with a coupon at Harbor Freight.

Danby wine fridge making noise

If I checked out the right video it sounds like a fan motor. After a fan motor heats up and with age the fan will leak a little oil, the oil will become to thin and not cote the bearings well enough. It sounds like the fan trying to start back up after stoping. I would track down the fan motor and replace it.

Our fridges problem is that when we started the fridge after 3-4 mins the fridge stopped working its on standby but the cooler/fans stops working.

I am trying to understand your refrigerators problem. Has it been cooling normally before this happens? Do you hear any clicking? Also what model is your Samsung? The model number should be around the fresh food section door frame. Are you saying the the refrigerator tries to start but the fans also turn off after the first 4 seconds?
Thanks Sea Breeze

Fridge working off/on

If the noise was coming from the compressor when it was cutting off or starting, it was the internal mounts of the compressor and the compressor will have to be replaced. If the noise was a fan, it may have stopped. One is in the freezer behind the rear cover and one is underneath where the compressor is behind the cardboard cover.

HP dvd play on my laptop malfunctioning

grinding sounds is from the dvd drive itself. Sounds like its not sitting properly in the drive or the holder that it sits in is going bad. Either way replace the drive and that will take care of the grinding sounds. Also the more grinding sounds that happen, the more of a chance you take on your dvds getting scratches on them and going bad eventually.

Candy fridge freezer

it should come back after about 20 mins only and should cool back after about 10 mins.

i'm afraid the buzzing sound could be coming from your compressor which can not start. the over current relay is tripping off after 20 seconds to prevent the compressor from burning up.
i suggest to unplug the ref, let it cool for 1 day, re plug it after a day and observe the compressor if would run.

if the buzzing sound is still there and the unit is no longer cooling, then the compressor is not running.
check the relay of the compressor. it could just be the relay.

tnx 4 using fixya,
