Question about Sharp Aquos LC-32D40U Television

1 Answer

I get a black rectangle in the middle of the screen. I can click any button (mute, view mode, cc) and the black rectangle will go away and whole picture will appear, for a couple of seconds and then the black rectangle appears again on the scree. I do not have cable and this frustrating event happens on all channels.

I do know that on Zenith CRT televisions of the 1990's this will happen and all I did to fix it is to go to the menu and turn the text feature off. This may be true with your Sharp as well.

It sounds that the Closed Caption function [CC}, is not set to ON. Set it OFF. Push the button marked {CC} at the remote control once to get rid of it. If there is no CC button on the remote control, you have to enter its service mode option to deselect it. If you wish to get more details about how to enter, adjust and exit the service mode, check the site linked here. Pull up previous posts or type in the brand name and model number to of your set, to its search box, and press 'Enter' or view it in Mosaic / Timeslide option.

TV is about 1 year old. Started yesterday having a black rectangle in the middle of the screen. Can press any button and it goes away but come's back in just a few seconds. Tv is a Element ELCHS321

Hi,
most times a black rectangle pops up when closed captioning is on. sometimes there will be gibberish in it sometimes not. See if you have button on remote labeled "CC" . Also if you have a cable or sat box make sure closed captioning is switched off there too.

Daewoo DTQ-27U4SC Display Problem

Sounds like your closed caption may be on and here is how to turn it off..

1. Press the menu button until you get to the "SPECIAL" menu.
2. Make sure that Closed Caption and CC on mute are both set to OFF.

This should make that black box go away...

Good Luck and please rate this solution...

My 32 lcd tv a black rectangle apears on aprox,

If it is a large black rectangle that blots out the middle of the screen then you need to check your CC (closed caption) setting. Make sure the closed caption is turned off. I'm not up to date on the newer sets, but a lot of the older ones had more than one CC setting. One setting ran the captioning across the bottom, another put it in a big black box in the center of the screen. Most places didn't support the full text so all that showed was a big black rectangle on the screen. Since I'm not sure exactly what your rectangle looks like, this is my best estimate of your problem. Hope this helps.

Black rectangle on screen

The box you're seeing is the "closed caption' box. You need to use the remote and disable CC mode on it, and the box will go away :)

Blach rectangle bottom halfpart of screen

Salutations bachiche13,

It sounds like your "Text" feature of your closed captioning may be activated. It sounds like what you would want to do is go in to your television menu and select CC or Closed Captioning to mute or off.

Hope this helps.

Try pressing the "View" button on the remote control a couple times -- it sounds like you have the picture-in-picture mode turned on but with nothing showing on the second input.

Black rectangle appears on screen

Check the settings for the CC (closed captioning) on your menu. Make sure it is turned off - if it is set to TEXT mode you will get a black box in the middle of the screen. Also look for a button on your remote labeled "CC"
