Hi dickgadsby,

Please try to move the lever slightly up or down while moving it forward to see if this will free the lever. If not and still lever can't be moved this means that you need to remove the top end assembly to check and replace parts. If you don't have the parts list manual you can download it from Kitchenaid's webiste. Pages 6 & 7 provides an exploded view for the disassembly and reassembly of your mixer. Check Illus Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, which are Pivot screw, Spring washer, Switch lever and stud, and Control plate spring. Once you have disassembled your machine inspect the pivot screw to see if it's loose. If loose, tighten. Inspect the rest of the assembly to determine if something else hasn't broken or gotten out of alignment. If something has broken, you can order replacement parts and install them yourself. You may order parts from repairclinic.com or searspartsdirect.com. Go to this link for it provides instructions on how to disassemble your machine.

Hope it helps.

Thank yu for using FixYa.

Kitchenaid KSM150 Mixer's speed Off has become High and speeds 1-10 have become Off

The starting position for those top speed control plate screws with the lock nuts it 8 full turns in when you fit the plate. Correct adjustment begins in or out from that point. The bottom screw should have been left where it was to start with as that is for adjusting the start position so that when the lever closes the switch contacts to start the mixer the plate only starts moving when the lever moves to the second click. Try and get the bottom one roughly right and then work on the top ones. Turn it to the first click on the speed lever and then EVENLY adjust the 2 top screws to have the planetary turn 13 to 15 times per 15 seconds. Lock up the lock nuts and then check that the bottom screw is in the correct position with speed increasing a small amount as the lever slips into the second click.

The unit will not power on. There is no noise when the the speed selector is in the on position. The electric socket works, the beater can be turned by hand, but the unit won't power on

This model as configured for NZ will not start unless you move the speed control from the off position to any one of the speeds. In other words it will not start if you turn it on at the wall when the speed control lever is already in any on position. You must start from the off position first. I have also seen one fail to operate because the power wires from the speed control to the motor had come slightly unplugged inside the housings.

On switch stuck on 10

Is speed lever literally stuck and can not be moved or is the motor speed always on high? The two have separate solutions.

The easy one is the stuck lever. Open the mixer up and see what is going on.

The other requires more effort. Again, opening things up is the first step. This time, however, simply removing the back cover should do. The most likely solution has to do with adjusting the control plate screws and the other may be replacing the phase board. See the Service Manual which can be downloaded at:

KitchenAid Speeds are offset

Ideally you need to fix what's bent and that normally would involve splitting the cases to get at and repair or change the speed control lever. If you don't want to do that then removing the back cover and altering the adjustments and maybe bending the switch contacts may make it operate at both ends of the speed control.

SPEED CONTROL ALWAYS ON HIGH

Speed control plate at the back is stuck in the high position or you need a new phase board. That's the small PCB under the back cover at the top.

Model K5SS -- The speed control lever will not stay in the slowest position - STIR - but will pop over to the next position - 2. Can I adjust anything to fix this problem?

Open up the Motor Housing and inspect the Switch Lever with Stud.
The Lower Gearcase has many depressions which allow the stud to
snap into it when the Speed Selection lever is moved. If the Stud
is worn out then there isn't much you can do but replacing it.
3184193 is the Switch Lever And Stud part number for your model.

Kitchenaid stand mixer will not stay in the off position.

There is a spring, item #4, which hooks on to the bottom of the control plate, item # 25, and pulls it back when you move the lever to off. Remove the rear cover and see if that spring is still connected to the control plate and to the lever arm, Item # 3. Here is the diagram:

Speed control lever stuck or locked. How do I unlock it?

Hi BROOKLYNX. To answer you primary question, no there is no special speed control knob lock that you?ve inadvertently triggered. OK, so without a lock why?s your speed control knob stuck? It most likely that something broken inside your mixer to lock it into position. I wouldn?t continue to operate your machine as you are doing. It?s not good for the electric motor, the electric cord or the plug. It would be better to determine the root cause of your control knob?s obstinacy. The inspection and troubleshooting of the inside of your mixer is a DITY capability, particularly if your mixer is out of warranty. Just be sure to have the Parts List manual on hand. If you're lacking one, you can download a PDF version from the KA website: http://www.kitchenaid.com/flash.cmd?/#/page/home. Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals & Guides> Enter the 6 character model number, in your case, try K45SSW, and select one of the files listed under Parts List (check to see it this matches your mixer model). Turn to pages 6 & 7, titled: Motor And Control Parts, which provides an exploded view for the disassembly and reassembly of your mixer, along with all the parts. You?ll want to focus on part #s 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, which is our speed control assembly. Check to see if something isn?t blocking you?re the movement of #3. You should be able to determine if something has broken. If something has broken, you can order replacement parts and install yourself. As far as parts go, here are four potential vendors in no particular order: RepairClinic.com; mendingshed.com; searspartsdirect.com; partstore.com. Prices for the same part can vary widely between vendors, so do your comparison shopping. Once apart you can check for any other unseemly wear and tear on the gears, etc. It can be messy but quite gratifying to diagnose and repair your mixer yourself. Finally, here's a link to an excellent site that details the disassembly and replacement of a mixer's grease, which might be helpful, too. http://www.foodonthefood.com/food_on_the_food/2009/04/how-to-repair-a-kitchenaid-mixer-yourself.html Good luck and have fun. I hope this helps. Howard, Burke, VA If this solution has helped you, please rate it, thanks! - hslincoln

The latch/switch on the speed control board is stuck

You need to take the back cover off and then split the gear cases to find the mechanical reason why the lever is stuck. Take the motor off the pedestal, remove the planetary and undo the 9 screws that hold the bottom gearcase to the top housing. You will need to unplug the white and the black wires from one side of the speed control plate.
