Question about Hampton Bay 52 In. Indoor/Outdoor Tahiti Breeze Ceiling Fan

1 Answer

A couple years ago I bought a Hampton Bay OUTDOOR ceiling fan... and the blade arms started breaking off shortly after the warranty expired....yes the fan "motor" is guaranteed for life but not the blades. My husband keeps trying to fix them (welding) but they don't last. Every now and then we step out and find one laying on the ground. When the first "arm" broke I thought it must have had a defect.....but all of them...really? There have to be more people who have had this problem..the fan was not cheap and is totally unusable now... I really feel cheated!!

How outside is the fan? The blades should be a plastic type material. They should not break just because of it being outside. Go to the nearest hardware store and tell them you need some exterior fan blades. Screw them in to the metal arms that connect to the fan and make sure you have all exterior and rust proof parts (screws, fan blade arms, etc). Make sure to tighten the screws good. Then screw them into the fan motor, tightly of course. These should not break. If it continues to break after replacing the blades, then it would seem as if someone or something is breaking them. I've been an electrician for 8 years and have never heard of this happening.

I should have been more specific...it is the "metal" arms that are breaking...not the plastic blades. I know it sounds crazy. The fan is mounted to the ceiling of our porch. It never gets wet and is protected from everything--except an occasional gust of wind....but it's an outside fan!!

How do I go about getting abs blades for model #EF200D-52?

Check the manufacturers label.
If this item was made in a foreign country, parts are just about never available in the United States.
If your fan is like the one pictures, they are not repairable, they are to be used until the break, then are to be discarded.
I hope this is not the case for you.

mcdevito75 here, On the fan you hear, carefully turn the blades by hand just a little and see if they start up on there own. These motors are sealed units and maybe the oil is a little thick from non-use. If the baldes don:t start up, Then I would replace the fans.

You can probably find outdoor blades at Home Depot, Lowes, etc.

There are ways to reduce the warping of indoor blades, but it's too much for most people. I'd suggest replacing them.

You could also surf the net for Hampton Bay stuff -- might be able to find them there, too.

Bulbs burning out in Hampton Bay ceiling fan

I would suggest getting an electrician to check the current running through the wiring. I had installed a similar fan in my grandmother's house a couple of years ago and had the same problem. After a couple of months of constantly changing bulbs, I brought in an electrician to check the current and found that there was a short in the wire which kept causing just enough of a current surge to blow the bulbs.

The best place to start with would be Home Depot. Since it is only a couple of weeks old you should have no problem exchanging it. This is their brand. They have a very liberal return and exchange program which should help you out.

If the fan blade mounts are removable, go to your local hardware store with one of the mounts, and find some screws that will fit. You might not be able to get the same color, but if you check a few stores you should find something with the right shape of head to fit snugly.
