Hello, please helh me how to secure my netgear router!

Follow the manufacturer's instructions to "login" to the web-server "inside" the router.
In the "wireless networking" section, configure to set:
* SSID (your "network-name")
* encryption-level -- use 'WPA' or 'WPA2'
* password for your network

Using 'WPA' encryption means that the wireless traffic between your computer and the router will be "secure", and using a password means that only you can use the wireless network.

How to configure wireless internet connection in windows xp

You need to set up the router first and know the name of the router: Also called The SSID.

Example: FIXYA'S ROUTER is a name for a router written by the router's owner and not the manufacturer. NEVER leave the default name (example: lynksys, Netgear, etc) because then everyone would get into your private wirless connection.

Once you set up the secuirty and name (SSID), turn on your laptop.

1) open contol panel and open NETWORK CONNECTIONS
2) right click on the wireless network connection icon
3) using the drop down menu from right clicking, click on PROPERTIES

A window called WIRELSS NTWORK CONNECTION PROPBERTIES will come oup

4) On the top Tabs ( labeled "General, Wireless Networks, and Advance) click on WIRELESS NETWORKS.
5) CLICK on the big button called VIEW WIRELESS NETWORKS

A new window will come up called WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTION

A list of other wireless routers should show up under the words CHOOSE A WIRELESS NETWORK

6) Rememeber the name you typed out for your router in the begining? LOOK AND CLICK ON the name you gave your router (eg: Fixya Router)

If you set a pasword or Wep key for connecting to your router type it in after you click and press ok. If you ddnt set a password or wep key, just click on the nam o router and click ok

You should then see if you could get on the web by opening your intenet explorer. If you followed the instructions well, you will be able to get on the internet.

PLEASE SAVE YOUR SSID (OR ROUTER NAME ) AND PASWORD OR WEP KEY IN A SAFE BUT OBTAINABLE PLACE.

Hope this helps :)

That is the internal wireless so no you dont you need any thing to set up a wireless connection
You need to set up your wireless network

Or you should have got an ethernet cable with the router usually small yellow, blue or blue. plug this cable into one of the ports on the back of your router then the other end of cable to the ethernet port on side (i think) of laptop anc conect phone line from main box to router. You dont need no software just switch on router wait a couple of minutes till all lights on router turn green and click on your internet explorer done!

HAVE INSTALLED NETGEAR DG834PN, WORKS WELL WHEN CONNECTED DIRECT TO LAPTOP, BUT WILL NOT CONNECT WHEN UNPLUGGED FROM COMPUTOR

  • Your laptop has to be configured with the wireless settings set in the router.
  • In your laptop, you may check the available wireless network that it can detect and you must select your own wireless network.
Hope this helps!

How to connect wireless router, Netgear WGR614, to my computer?

4 steps to set up your home wireless network
1.
Choose your wireless equipment
The first step is to make sure that you have the equipment you need. As you're looking for products in stores or on the Internet, you might notice that you can choose equipment that supports three different wireless networking technologies: 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g. We recommend 802.11g, because it offers excellent performance and is compatible with almost everything.
Shopping list
• Broadband Internet connection
• Wireless router
• A computer with built-in wireless networking support or a wireless network adapter

A wireless router
The router converts the signals coming across your Internet connection into a wireless broadcast, sort of like a cordless phone base station. Be sure to get a wireless router, and not a wireless access point.
A wireless network adapter
Network adapters wirelessly connect your computer to your wireless router. If you have a newer computer you may already have wireless capabilities built in. If this is the case, then you will not need a wireless network adapter. If you need to purchase an adapter for a desktop computer, buy a USB wireless network adapter. If you have a laptop, buy a PC card-based network adapter. Make sure that you have one adapter for every computer on your network.
Note: To make setup easy, choose a network adapter made by the same vendor that made your wireless router. For example, if you find a good price on a Linksys router, choose a Linksys network adapter to go with it. To make shopping even easier, buy a bundle, such as those available from D-Link, Netgear, Linksys, Microsoft, and Buffalo. If you have a desktop computer, make sure that you have an available USB port to plug the wireless network adapter into. If you don't have any open USB ports, buy a hub to add additional ports.
2.
Connect your wireless router
Since you'll be temporarily disconnected from the Internet, print these instructions before you go any further.
First, locate your cable modem or DSL modem and unplug it to turn it off.
Next, connect your wireless router to your modem. Your modem should stay connected directly to the Internet. Later, after you've hooked everything up, your computer will wirelessly connect to your router, and the router will send communications through your modem to the Internet.

It sounds like you need to reinstall the driver for the Realtek network interface card (NIC). I recommend accessing the Gateway web site to find the model number of the laptop, and then download the driver for the Realtek NIC. This should restore the functionality.

I just installed my siemens se567 wireless router nd I want to set up a wireless network to another computer using a linksys wireless usb network card. What must I do?

Hi tbopper, install linksys software. Follow the instruction. Disable your anti virus / firewall software. (temporally). Make sure the PC with the wireless card is turned on.
Than open My Network connections & run windows Set up a home or small office network. Follow windows instructions.
That's it. When you restart your PC your Anti virus software should enable it's self. Check your firewall is also back on, if it's included in your anti virus it will re-inable it's self. Since your running a wireless make sure you enable security & password, other wise anyone with a wireless can tap into your wireless signal slowing your bandwith down.
To test your linksys is correct. Open internet explorer. In the address window type in 192.168.1.1 & press enter. Your settings should show up. Tech support is free with linksys.

Good Luck & Enjoy!
