All of the above have been tried and it's when I am driving and listeing to music at half volume that it goes into protection mode and shuts down. Is there anything else that you could suggest trying?

I have had this amp in my car probably since 05 or 06. The speakers are Diamond Audio M3611 and they are 4 OHM speakers./ Just recently I had installed a Pioneer DEH_P7200HD head unit to replace my factory Monsoon radio. I also upgraded the grounds and alternator power lead to 4 gauge with separatre radio amp turn on leads, My car is a street and strip car and has under drive pullies on it, so the big tthree wiring upgrade has helped in keeping voltage from droppping below 12 volts while driving under 2000 RPMs.Do you think that it is voltage related or could it just be that the gain is too high. I have not heard of this car needing fans in the hatch area so what might it be.

    Thanks,

    Curtis

  • When an amp goes into protect mode I always like to remove all the wires and start hooking them up and see when it goes into protect mode.
  • If the amp goes into protect mode after hooking up the power, ground and remote wire then your wires are bad, you amp is defective or the amp is bolted to or touching the metal of the car.
  • Never run wires through door frames as they will be crimped and break.
  • Driving your amp to hard for to long and the thermal protector kicks in and shuts the amp down until it reaches a proper cooled temperature.
  • Make sure you don't have the amp bolted to metal on the car itself. Place something non-conductive in between the two.
  • Check to insure the ground wire remote wire and power wire are connected proper and that there are no crack is the wires. That goes for the RCA cables as well.
  • If your amp goes into protect mode when hooking up the speakers check the wiring and make sure you don't have the speakers wired at to low of impedance.

    • How long has it been doing this? Is it a new amp? Or new to you? What speakers are you using? Ohm rating of speakers? Half power is very low for protect mode to kick in. And you switched RCA cables for a try and checked all connections? How long has this amp been hooked up in it's current location? Are you bridging the speakers? I need these questions answered to help me help you. It may be time to open the amp and have a look.

    • The output of that Pioneer is definitely going to put out more to your amp than that stock deck did. The gain might need to be turned down a bit on that amp. That deck could be feeding a bit much for the gain setting. Tell me is the amp, regardless of setting, getting hot to the touch when it shuts down?

    • Before I forget you want 13.8 volts going to that amp at all times it is performing. 12 will starve it after a bit. Although I don't feel this is the problem.

When raising volume deck cuts-off

Sounds like an overheating issue. Most car receivers have heat sinks at the rear to dissipate heat, but if there is little or no rear clearance for the unit the heat may build up and the unit goes into a self protection mode and shuts down.

Yamaha home theatre system RXV 350 amplifier

Check it without speaker connection. If the set does not go to protection mode, check all the speakers by connecting one by one at a time and switch the set ON; to find the faulty speaker. If the set goes to protection mode even no speaker connected, check and replace damaged components at its audio output section circuit. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Jl 1000/1 goes into protective mode with low frequency

Do you have a capacitor????? If not, when its up loud and hitting hard it might be going into protection because of a voltage sag....If it goes below 11.8v they will usually do that.....Get a multi meter and put on the hot and ground of your amp when its playing loud and see what the voltage is dropping to.....If its going below 12v, thats your remedy...gd luck....

When volume goes high, the system goes in protection and relay's clik is heared

This is not the fault with remote control. Check the load connected to the device. If overload occurs, the device will itself go to protect mode. Disconnect speakers one by one and check which speaker box causes the system to go to protect mode, when volume is incresed. Check that speaker for short.

I have a power acoustik ibm12000d amp had it installed to weeks ago wired at one ohm to a 15inch acoustik p3 sub worked good for to weeks hit good and everything but now its cutting off when turned up I...

Sounds like an over current condition. Your sub may be the problem. Does it go into protect mode when it cuts out? remove the sub and turn up the volume and see if it cuts out when you keep increasing the volume. If not, then it may be that the sub shorts out when turned up too much, kicking the amp into protect mode. If it still cuts out, then it may be the amp. Try another sub if you have one or borrow one from a friend.

Stereo cuts out at half volume.

You don't exactly define what "cuts out" means.... silence, protection or power off?

What makes you think it's thermal in nature?

Have you considered the speaker load impedance may be too low for the amp?

Onkyo ts595 goes into protect mode with volume increase

Hold the VCR/DVR button in and press the ON/OFF Standby button. The display should briefly read CLEAR and then the unit switches off. If that clears protect mode, you'll need to redo the Audyssey and configuration setup as these will have been cleared by the reset.

PROTECTION MODE

The unit may be experiencing an overload caused by a short circuit, internally or externally. Try disconnecting all the speakers, then turning up the volume. If nothing happens, connect one speaker at a time and turn up the volume to see if you get more sound. You may have a speaker that has shorted internally and this will help you discover the bad one. However, if when you have all the speakers disconnected, and the unit still goes into protection mode with the volume up, then there is a problem with the unit itself.

Hope this helps, and please rate my advice, good OR bad.

Good luck!
