I cannot connect up SP800UZ to my computer. - Olympus SP800UZ Digital Camera

Have you considered NOT connecting your camera to your computer? The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

If you mean that, even when you connected the Olympus USB cable correctly, the computer does not recognize the camera? If so, connect the camera to another computer to check if the camera or usb cable or the original computer is causing the problem. Often the computer does recognize the camera as a Removeable USB Device. You can see that when using e.g. the Windows Explorer. If the problem is only, that the installed Olympus software is not started, when connecting the camera to the computer, check the settings of the [ib] software by running it manually. Otherwise re-install the [ib] software.

Took some photos without memory card. The photos are in the camera's memory, how can I transfer those photos into a memory card?

There are some solutions, but the most easy one is:

1. Take the SD card out of the camera and connect it to the pc to transfer the images. After that, put the SD card back into the camera.

2. There is a menu option in the SP800uz to change the memory to Intern, Extern (SD) and Auto (default). Change it temporary to Intern, connect the camera to the PC and transfer the images. Set the setting back to Auto (or else) afterwards.

I cannot transfer photos/videos on my laptop. when i connect the USB it always says no connection on the LCD of the camera...what should i do. my camera is the Olympus SP800uz

1. Try to use another USB port to connect the camera to the computer.
2. If that does not help at all, you might want to check if it works well when connecting the camera to another computer.
3. If it does not work either, replace the Olympus' USB cable first to diagnose further. (CB-USB6)

I have plugged it in and it my computer will not recognize that the USB is even plugged in, but it does charge the camera.

Try all the different USB Ports on your computer, sometimes certain ports can 'glitch' and not recognize the device that you've plugged in. If you've tried plugging it in all the ports and your computer still hasn't recognized the camera, re-install the driver software for the Olympus SP800UZ.
If all else fails, you can also contact Olympus customer service, they're quite prompt and helpful.

Have put in the SD card into my camera before doing the set up via the PC on my new olympus sp800UZ camera can you help as I cant seem to use the camera

If you did not format the internal camera memory, you can initialize and install: Set the camera to OFF. Remove the SD card and connect the camera to the computer with the USB cable. The computer and camera should negociate and the camera should initialize and it asks to install the software.

Why it takes forever before i can download pictures to my computer

The camera uses a USB2.0 connection. The best speed results can only be achieved when the computer does have USB2.0 or better too. You can try another USB port or try it on another computer.
An alternative is to use a SD / SDHC memorycard and to transfer the pictures, put the card into the computer cardreader.
