Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

Another Playstation 3 problem (HELP)

Okay, I was playing COD4 one night and logged on to play online. Got into a room and was about to start playing. Got to the load up screen and then all of the sudden my ps3 froze. So I did what every person would do, I turned the console off. Now when I turned it back on the unit would not recognize that their was a disc in it. Now most people would think the ps3 would give me a disc read error but no in this case, it actually does not even recognize I put a game in it. Does this sound like something other people may have? I have tried putting blu-rays in it and dvds and different games and still does not acknowledge I put anyting in it. I can still do everything else on it though like log onto the internet and visit the playstation store. Someone please help me.

Just an update as to my problem:

It has been solved. I sent the ps3 back to sony because it was still under warranty. It took them an impressive one week to get my ps3 and send it right back to me. So whatever the problem is it was an easy replacement part.

    Thanks for the help

You have a (all too common) laser problem and need to get it serviced or replaced. This is happening to every 1 out of 10 PS3 units. The lasers are getting harder to get, and this (like gasoline) is causing the price to rise. I would call Sony first though. http://www.us.playstation.com/support/ps3

One person told me that if all else fails, to reset the system defaults. CAUTION: do not click on the "Reset PS3 System" !! It will wipe your hard drive.

Go to System Settings >> Restore System Defaults >>Yes. I have not been lucky enough to see this work, but it's worth a try.

I hope this helps

1. enable UPnP
2. enable DMZ
3. change ip settings from dynamic to static
4. check out game sites as may have to port forward some ports

Multiple (3) ps3 and call of duty 4 in 1 house

On the Ps3 that isn't working, go into the settings and see if there is something under it that is prevent invitations or friend requests. It will probably be under parental controls or network settings. If someone else hosts the game can that Ps3 join. Also try and get the messed up one connected by ethernet cable and not wireless, it may be cutting out as there are 3 ps3's and probably multiple computers hogging the signal.

PS3 Network Error

It's pretty much hit or miss right now with COD4 online for the PS3. I have the same game and the same problems. It has actually been going on since NOV. of ' 07. There is no way to fix it right now, just play and hope that it works okay. Most nights people can't even get online at all. What's happening is the servers for the game are way too overloaded and they can't handle all the traffic. Infinity Ward, Activision (game designers) and Demonware (take care of and supply servers) for the game are working on a fix but probably won't have a decent permanent one until the end of the month at the earliest, and I wouldn't be surprised if that doesn't happen.

I've provided a few links that might make give a better understanding.
