Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

Just came out of storage and turned to find that, while the compressor is running, there is no cold air. All pans are dry as the desert since it's been in storage.

Make certain that the compressor is running and not just the fan. Sounds like refigeration leak if the compressor is working. If that is so scrap that unit and turn in the copper at a metal buyers yard and buy a new one dont spend to much money trying to repair a very cheap window unit. If this is helpful please rate me and do a testimonial.

The compressor IS on but no gurgling like I would expect. I would think that the compressor would not click on if there was not a full charge, or empty, of coolant. I'm familiar with auto AC charging, is this much different?

Its not much different Just hook on to the low side however you are going to have to add a piercing valve to hook onto the line. There are different fitting for home A/C opposed to auto but everything else is kind of the same.

The compressor will come on even if it is flat (no freon). The unit does not have pressure switches on it.

A/C unit does not blow cold air

Good Morning Friend,

I understand your Frigidaire air conditioner, model# FAA055P7A1, is not blowing cold air. I also see that you have had it in storage and it has not been run for 5 seasons. Please note that the "Cool " circuit has an automatic 3 minute time delayed start if the unit is turned off and on quickly. This prevents overheating of the compressor and possible circuit breaker tripping. The fan will continue to run during this time.

First, make sure you have cleaned the filter by following these instructions:

• Push the vent handle to the Vent Closed position (where applicable).
• Open the front panel.
• Grasp the filter by the center and pull up and out.
• Wash the filter using liquid dishwashing detergent and warm water. Rinse filter thoroughly. Gently shake excess water from the filter. Be sure filter is thoroughly dry before replacing.
• Or, instead of washing you may vacuum the filter clean.

Secondly, make sure the temperature sensing element, located behind the air filter, is not touching a cold coil. If it is straighten it away from the coil.

Lastly, try resetting your air conditioner to a lower temperature.

I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your appliances status has changed successfully. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-
WP

Blow air running compressor not running

Your air compressor is dead or the refrigerant has leaked out. Wait!!! Don't give up yet. This very same situation happened to me. I had air blowing(not cold at all) but the outside A/C compressor was not running. Check your inside unit which is either in a closet or in your attic. There is a water pan underneath it. If it is full of water, it has activated a floating shut-off switch that is wired directly to your outside Compressor. You must remove the water. the best way is with a large wet-dry vac. Then make sure the drainage pipe is properly connected and is not clogged. You can probably fix that by sucking out the drain pipe with your vacuum. Once the water is gone, your floating shut-off switch will re- activate your Air Conditioner. Kind of like the floating ball in your toilet. You may sweat a lot, but you will save yourself a service call and some big bucks. Good Luck!!!

Fridge warm, freezer has frost on back panel & is defrosting, fans work, just changed defrost thermostat, no air is moving from freezer side to fridge side, drain pan under fridge is dry

this fan needs to run when the compressor runs, check fan blade for being jammed by ice if you have this much ice on back wall as ice will stall motor,if no fan there will be no cool air to refrige compartment also the defrost drain tray will fill with water then freeze over which in turn floods the freezer floor and refrige compartments cause it cannot drain to the pan in the bottom

I HAVE A SCOTSMAN MODEL NUMBER QD0452A SERIAL NUMBER 991262644 I HAVE RESET IT BUT IT KEEPS SHUTTING DOWN AND FLASHING RED CONTIUNSLY

Normally that means needs to be cleaned. The air filter needs to be cleaned, and if you have a air compressor, blow it out and clean it as good as you can. Also of unit comes out easily, you can also hose it out, and let it dry completely with help of using air compressor to blow out excess water, then run on fan only to help dry, then once completely dry, then turn to cold. But bottom line here it is most likely dirty.I hope this helps you. Thanks Mike from fixya.

Sunbeam portable air condition..all things work..compressor runs..but now cold air sunbeam portable air conditoner mode KY25 ..9,000 btu I have it since 2005..I've used it for one year..it's been...

sometimes storing an AC for long periods of time will allow the coolant that it uses to seep out, leaving you with an AC that seems to work, but won'tr cool any air. If you have a user's manual (or can find one) check to see what type of coolant it uses (if it's freon or something else) and if you can refill it. If you can refill the coolant, that should resolve your problem ... if not, you might be able to take it to a repair shop and have them do it for you. Good luck!

Unit runs but no water in storage tank

Make sure conditions are not too cold or too dry already.
Is the compressor running?
Set the unit to the continuous run setting or the dryest setting
compressor should start.
If compressor runs but the evaporator doesn't get cold the freon has
leaked out.
If compressor doesn't run no matter what you do the board may be bad.
Also the fan must blow air.

My freezer is about 2 years old, but has been in storage for about a year and a half. The green light comes on, and the motor is running, but it will not get cold or even cool.

Hi ndntwiggy,
Ngafm at your service

Your said, your freezer is about 2 years old, but has been in storage for about a year and a half.
And the green light comes on, and the motor is running, but it will not get cold or even cool.

When a compressor is not run for more than a year, or 2 years there is a possibility that the seals dried out from non use and the freon leaked out.
Compressors have oil in them that when run even once a month will lubricate the seals and keep them soft and moist! .
Just like in the older cars from the 1960's or 70's the air conditioners had to be run once a month even in the winter to keep the seals lubricated or they lost the freon!
Then they started to make the defroster turn the compressor on as to lubricate the seals every time it rained or snowed and you needed the defrosters and this serviced the compressor as in todays cars.!
So you need service to fix it and more than likely it's out of freon refrigerant .
Let me know your end results.

normally the drain pan will evaperate the water as the compressor fan blows air across the pan along with the compressors heat
if you still want to rempve the water you can place a towell in the pan and let it soak up the water remove the towel and it will be gone
