SOURCE: nb acer aspire 7520G - black screen (no light) on startup - starting from sleep mode

Pull the battery and unplug it.

Plug in the AC adapter and see if it boots.

if it does shut it down and reinsert battery, problem solved.

if that doesnt do it then i would check that your ram is seated properly and try swapped between 2 ram chips in both sockets (if your laptop has 2 sockets.

Hope this helps!

SOURCE: Compaq Presario V2000 Screen went black

As you can see the screen with a flashlight then the lcd and video card and cable are fine,
That leave the inverter and the support cable to it.
if you installed another inverter then the lamps are bad, but you have to be certain the inverter is putting out HV, else the support cable and circuit that turn on the inverter is at fault. it is best to trouble shoot in the bios screen , and be certain that you have the brightness turned up.

SOURCE: ACER ASPIRE 5610z BLACK SCREEN

You could have a defective screen - follow this to determine the fault.

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

I cant enter sleep mode on my acer aspire one zg5. How do i fix?

Your settings in power mode have changed. Open up display and go to the screen saver tab (win 7) you will see the power savings option at the bottom. Go into that and change what the buttons do. You will have 3 situations to change. What happens when i close the lid, power button and sleep mode. Chances are you gave everything set to do nothing

My monitor is black stand by mode is locked can't see to change the resolution

By default, Windows 7 is configured to go in sleep mode whenever you close the lid on your laptop. While this is generally preferred by most users to preserve the laptop's battery life, it might be useful to disable this process. Many laptops provide the ability to connect an external display. In this case, closing the lid would also prevent any signal going to the external display. If you would like to stop Windows from shutting off your monitor when you close the lid, access the Windows Power Options component and disable this feature.

My display screen goes on and off

I find sleep mode nothing but trouble, eventually corrupts window files over extended use, go into power options, go to stand by and select never and click apply, next go to hibernate "top right" and click, make sure the check box is clear, if not! remove check and click apply and restart your laptop.

Possible faulty backlight. Wait for boot-up and then close the lid or press the power button to put the laptop into sleep/standby mode. Open it up again and see if the screen comes on.

The screen is going black like its in sleep mode when i open it up

I had the same problem. While rebooting the laptop the screen would be on for a few seconds after it finished rebooting then the display would go black. If you looked very carefully at the screen you could see the image was there but there was no light behind the screen to make the image visible.

I removed the black plastic display bezel cover that goes around the edge of the display screen to check out the lights and wiring. I found a small magnet that belongs inside the display bezel had fallen out of it's slot in the plastic bezel and was stuck to the inverter pcb (printed cicuit board). To fix this problem I secured the magnet into it's slot inside the display bezel with a bit of glue. After fixing the problem and putting the display bezel back together the laptop worked normally.

This magnet is how the laptop knows the lid is closed. When the laptop is closed the magnet is moved closer to a magnetic switch on the inverter pcb and activates the switch. The laptop thinks it is closed and shuts off the lights behind the display screen. When the magnet fell out of it's slot and stuck to the inverter it activated the magnetic switch all the time whether the laptop was open or closed. This caused the laptop to think it was closed and shut off the lights behind the dispaly screen as soon as the reboot finished.

Sleep mode

Does the monitor go to sleep when you unplug the video cable? If so, then the computer is still sending a signal, if not, check the monitor menu settings for no signal settings.
