You have to back up your data, then run chkdsk and scandisk and then format the drive. By the end of this process, you will be able to open it as usual. Finally, make sure that your antivirus is up to date and scan your whole system for anti virus. If this process persists, back up all the system data and format the whole machine.
Connect the disk as a "slave" disk-drive in another computer.
Open "My Computer".
Right-mouse click on the icon for the "slave" drive.
Do not choose "quick-format".
Click OK to write "zero" values all over the disk-drive.

Go to My computer, right hand mouse click on the pen drive and select Format. If the pen drive is not visible, go to Control Panel select Administrative tools, select Computer management and select Disk management. There will be your drive. Format it from here. Hope that helps.
boot disks allow you to by-pass damaged Windows 2000 operating system
files to get your computer up and running in a solid, stable
configuration. You simply tell the computer to access the Windows 2000
codes necessary for start-up from your floppy disk drive rather than
the hard drive. Creating the set of four boot disks is specific to this
version of the operating system
the Windows 2000 Professional CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive.
Insert a formatted, blank diskette into the floppy disk drive. Have
three additional formatted, blank diskettes standing by.
"Start" at the bottom left corner of your computer screen to open the
start-up menu. This lists the start-up actions available for Windows
2000. Select "Run." The program then asks you to designate the drive,
program, folder or file you want to open by either typing the
destination or clicking "Browse," to select the destination from the
Windows 2000 directory.
Click the "Browse" button at the bottom of the pop-up window. The PC's hard drive directory window appears.
the computer's hard drive directory and select the CD-ROM drive to
designate it as the destination you want to open. Click "OK" to open
the CD-Rom drive. The folders and files saved on the Windows 2000 CD
now appear in the directory format.
Select the "Bootdisk" folder. A directory of files appears.
the program file "Makeboot.exe," then click "OK" to launch the Windows
2000 boot disk maker program. The program checks that you have a
formatted diskette in the floppy disk drive and then begins to make the
your screen as the process of making the boot disk progresses. The boot
disk for Windows 2000 requires four diskettes. The program cues you to
remove the first diskette and insert the second, and so on until all
four diskettes are created and the boot disk making process is finished.
If it shows up in windows explorer as a drive, right click it and choose format and choose ntfs as the file format.
Do you know what format it is when you use linux? I dont think you can use a dos command to format an ntfs volume. Your message probably means it cant read FAT or FAT32 because it probably already is NTFS file format.
