SCSII drives do not Master/Slave they have device IDs 0-7
to correctly give them a device ID is usualy based on binary on the three pin sets 000=0 001=1 010=2 011=3 100=4 101=5 110=6 111=7
so you can select any device ID higher than your existing drive.

How do i set a seagate barracuda 7200 hd to slave

you don't need to setup as a Slave drive like IDE drives. You simply install the new SATA drive on an open port and follow the steps in this thread to format the hard drive. This will allow the hard drive to be used as a storage drive or whatever you plan to use it for.

Guide: If you installed a new disk but the system can't see it

I have mercury mother board and its having nine pinsocket for reset switch, power switch,hd led ,etc but i dont know their proper connections. there are some nos besides but not understandable . can you...

Hi Rajen samani!
Most mercury motherboards with a nine pin front panel connection use the following configuration.
joehaydu_0.jpg
You may want to double check to make sure that your motherboard follows this configuration. Just go to http://www.mercury-pc.com/downloads.php, enter your model number, and you'll be able to download the manual for your board. The jumper configuration should be in a section labeled "Front Panel Connection" or something similar.
Hope that Helps!

Jumper setting for slave drive

there is no such master or slave setting when SATA is used.
it is mainly used to tell the motherboard which one is master or slave when connected with IDE cable (PATA).
you don't need to worry about it as you are using a SATA HD.

the boot disk priority can be set in the BIOS
press del or F2 after you press the power button on CPU. you will be put with the BIOS/CMOS setup. go to boot priority and set accordingly, there is also an option to set the default hard disk in case you have more than one HD.

MY COMPUTER KEEP SHOW NEW HARDWARE NOT FOUND

you may have not properly set the jumpers on your new installed hard drive.

usually a computer will have 2 eide drive controllers where you would connect a ribbon cable. a ribbon cable has a middle connector and end connector and obviously another end connector that connects to the motherboard)
now you can connect upto to devices to that ribbon cable. most computers will have one device connected to the end connector (the hard drive) and no devices connected to the middle connector or sometimes they may have 2 device on the same cable: the hard drive on the end and a cd/dvd drive on the middle. others computers may have one ribbon cable for each device as computers usually come with 2 drive controllers (so you can connect 2 cables which means a total of upto 4 eide devices)

now, when you connect devices on 1 ribbon cable, the end device is the master device, the one the middle is the slave. to make a device a master or a slave you need to set a jumper. the jumper is usually located in between the ribbon cable connector and the power connector, the legend to know where the jumper goes to make it a slave or a master is usually on the label of the hard drive. you may need to check that label and with some pliers make the proper setting for that jumper.

on a new hd usually the jumper setting will be in master. so if you connected the hard drive on a ribbon cable that already has a master at the end it may not be detected. try to connect that master device on another ribbon cable that has no other devices connected and connect it on the end connector (not the middle one). if you have no other option but to connect it in the middle already having a master device at the end, set the jumper to on the slave position.

while you are at it. make sure you have your power connector and data (ribbon) cable properly seated.

if the caviar hd your are trying to install is an old hd and you know that you have the proper hd configuration and the cables properly seated, it is possible that no detection means hd failure.

I am looking for a user guide for a Black Armor 320 GB Maxtor, ¿can you help?

why would you need one ? Maxtor has a jumper label
on their face that is all the info you'll need to operate
this HDD , the rest is in the OS set up NTFS or
FAT32 , stick with the NTFS and you'll have no
problems , the jumper label indicates using as a
master , Slave or a Cable select , the IDE cable
in your computer if using an ATA HDD has two
connections the top one is the master the lower
one is the slave , if the HDD is a SATA it has its
own special connection which is marked SATA

I need the jumper setting for mode 2l51536H

you don't give much info to go on- but if you are adding a second hd and have your os on the existing hd, then you should set your second on 'slave'. there should be a label on the hd showing you where to set the jumper for 'slave' mode. make sure it's connected to the same cable as the other hd. 0n the second connector!
they have their priorities!
good luck!

I need jumper settings. I'm converting it to an external hd.

You should be able to use it as Cable Select or "CS" address the label of your drive to establish which pins need to be jumped for this mode.

Certain manufactures are different, and require drives to be set to Master while on certain controllers, such as the one you are using for External.

These settings will not harm the drive, providing you follow the label, you may just have to use trial and error. Just make sure you stay within the "CS" "MA" "SL" or Cable Select, Master, and Slave options.

Hope this information helps.

Setting Maxtor HD as Slave.

Howdy,

First "easy" one I've had in hours....

Just pull the J50 pin out of the jumper block and PRESTO it'll be a slave the OFF position literally reffers to having the J50 pin off of the hard drive. Just a note though, I highly recommend using a peice of scotch tape to affix the pin to a nearby surface cause there a real pain to find if and when you need em again.

Intel 845epi board not booting

Please go through the following option :

1) Check the master and slave jumper settings of hard disk and CD-ROM. Hard disk jumper setting should be Master and CD-ROM should be slave.

2) Check the cable of hard disk and CD-ROM.

3) Use different power supply which should be in good condition and than attach your hard disk and CD-ROM.

Hard Drive Install gone bad!

Unplug the slaved hard drive.

Restart the computer. If you get the same results.

Pull out the cmos battery on the motherboard. Most look like shiny nickles, be carefull not to damage the board. Make sure you unplug the computer first and let it sit a minute or two afterwards before putting it back.

That will set the bios back to defaults and you should be able to get the computer up and running from there.

As far as slaving that drive to be used as extra storage, you might want to consider an external enclousure instead.

Best of luck.
