Question about Televison & Video

I have bad 1200 microfarad caps on my power supply of my 52 inch LG tv. Voltage ratings are 35V. I have some 1500 microfarad by 50 v caps that would physically fit in their place. Would these work in place of the 1200? I know voltage rating is ok.

Hello,

Do not use the 1500. One thing to remember about electrolytic's is this. The microfarad must be to spec. But you can always up the voltage. ie use a 1200 by 50V instead of a 1200 by 35V

Power source does not work. Wont turn on or off

Blown fuse or bad capacitor on the power supply. the set and remove the back panel. Locate the power supply. There is usually a fuse in line with the hot supply wire. Check it for continuity with an ohmmeter. Look for bulging electrolytic capacitors on the power supply. Electrolytics are polarized (+-) and can fail if they go even slightly overvoltage. Replace bad capacitors with components with the same microfarad rating but a slightly higher voltage rating. I.E. replace a 16 volt cap with a 25 volt cap.

I have a KDL-55HX925. suddenly it turned off and standby led (red) blinks 2 times. I know it has problem in power supply. I turned it off and unplug for more than 1 hour but nothinh happened. I have enough...

Hi Sir Saeid Manzari,

Right, that problem is cause of faulty power supply..

The first thing I suggest is to open the back cover of your TV then find the power supply board (it is usually found connected directly to the power cord)..After you find the power supply kindly inspect the condition of all capacitors, commonly then faulty capacitors look like leak/bulged on the top but sometimes not and looks fine..

see this picture.
1_28_2012_11_22_23_am.png

If you found any bulged capacitors kindly replace it only with the same value (microfarad/voltage) example 2200uf/35v means 2200 microfarad/35 volts..

If you don't see any bulged caps let me know to proceed other test to determine if the true problem is on the power supply or other board inside..

If that so please ready your multimeter tester for voltage checking..

Hope we find the real problem and fix it..

Just keep on touch!!!!

Thanks for using fixya and choosing my service!!!!

My lg w2043 won't power on

Hello,

The issue you describe is consistent with a power supply board issue. This is the board where the AC goes to. This problem may have occurred as a result of irregular power supply, or excess power supply or power surge.

The TV is receiving current but cannot circulate or transfer the current to other necessary part of the TV because of the defective power supply board. You might be lucky it's just a blow fuse. Also a defective transformer can cause your TV not to power on.

All these can be checked on the power supply board.

But more often bad capacitors causes problem on the power supply board. I do not think the power board needs replacement, rather those defective capacitors is causing this issue. Open unit up and take a look at the power supply board. You will probably see one or more electrolytic filter capacitors that are bulged up in the top-not perfectly flat like the others.

The value of these capacitors will be different, most likely they will be somewhere around-820 to 2200uF/25 V( or /10V sometimes)

You can replace them with same values but I would recommend the voltage rating to be higher(like 35V for an original 25V) for reliability purposes.

What happens is,these bulged top capacitors will cause a low and unfiltered DC voltage=main board will malfunction(the relay will keep clicking until the caps are holding enough charge to bring the voltage up over a threshold point).

You can buy these capacitors at any Fry's or Radioshack store or you can order them online at vendors like "mcmelectronics.com"(look for electrolytic capacitors). After replacing these capacitor(capacitors) most likely the normal operation will be restored. Or you can by a refurbished complete power board to save you some stress.

Note: There may be also some other causes for this symptom ,like a defective T con board ,or main board, but the bulged top capacitors are the most common cause for this issue.

If you don't know about TV repairers, take the TV to the nearest repairman to fix the fault for you. Also, note that TV stores a lot of current, so wait a while before opening the TV back cover.

I hope this helps....

Regards.

You have 4 bad capacitors on the Power Supply. Replace C24 and C25 (100 microfarad 35v) Replace C12 and C21 (33 microfarad 35 v). It would be a good idea to replace them with a better voltage rating, maybe 50 volt electrolytic capacitors.

CYBERHOME DVD RECORDER DVR1600

I cannot say this with authority, since I own a 1200 model, but from what I've read of that model researching my own it's most likely the power supply. It is repairable if you or someone you know can solder. Here's what I found:

I did pretty much the same to my 1200, replaced two 2200uF caps with 35V versions. Make sure the rated voltage of the new caps is at least 16V! Higher is better. There's also a firmware update for that model, you might want to look into that too. Of course, you can't use it until this is fixed.
