If it is a new machine the chances are it doesn't have a floppy drive, they are becoming quite rare these days since they perfected bootable CD's

My Dell optiplex 210L boots up into a menu that says floppy seek failure strike f1 to continue f2 to run utility

You took your battery out and your computer lost all memory of what components it has installed. Hit F2 to get into the System Bios Setup. Look for your Disk drives and you will see your floopy disk drive there also. You should set the Floppy to Not Installed or None. It is probably set to Auto or 1.44.

Where is the disk drive for a floppy disk located at on the tower

Sorry, but it appears that the EMachines model W3503 does not have a floppy disk drive installed. See this link: http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/emachines-w3503/1707-3118_7-32178774.html

Floppy disks are obsolete at this point. If you have data on a floppy disk that you wish to retrieve, see about getting help from someone you know who might have one on their computer system, or visit a public library (you might be able to offload the floppy disk contents and e-mail them to yourself).

Most people use USB flash drives now. They are far more reliable and have enormous capacity. Definitely get one if you don't have it. The W3503 computer has several USB ports on it.

3.5 inch movable shield on disk stuck in Teac 3.5 external drive

Take the drive from the enclosure, remove the top cover from the floopy drive, you should be able to GENTLY remove the floppy shield. Try not to stress the heads or wiring inside of drive. The floppy shield should come out the front.

My cpu won't boot

Is there a disk in your floppy drive?
Do you use the floppy drive at all? (Most people no longer do)

If you don't, unplug the power, open the case, disconnect the floppy drive.
Plug it back in, power it on, and go into the BIOS setting screen (depending on the computer, there are different things to do, like hit the DEL key, or F12, or F2, or ESC etc)
Once you are in the BIOS screen, disable the floppy drive detection, save it and try booting again.

It sounds like your floppy drive has gone bad. By removing it, and disabling it in the detection, you can get deeper into the problem (if there is one after that)

UNABLE TO READ A NEW, UNUSED FLOOPY DISK THAT I PUT NEW INFORMATION ONTO. THE ERROR, AS I CALL IT ASK ME IF I WISH TO FORMAT THE FLOPPY. IT REFUSES TO READ THE FLOPPY DISK WHICH HAS MY INCOME TAX INFO...

The disk may have unrecoverable formatting errors making it useless. Or your hardware could be on the failure.

If you absolutely must , try purchasing or borrowing an external floppy drive and try to save the information to the disk on the external drive. If if formats and works then you know your internal floppy drive is bad.

If it has the same problems as formatting it in your internal drive, then the floppy itself is bad.

If I may suggest , in the future it would be wiser to save all your data to a removable USB Flash Drive. They are very very inexpensive and cost a lot less then a box of floppies :)

If you need a emergency floppy disk go to http://www.bootdisk.com/. The emergency floppy disk only has boot files that enable you to possibly fix a windows issue.

I have an old G3 and when I power it up it gives me a floopy disk in the middle of the screen with a ? mark flashing I have no start up floopy can you let me create one

You could try to start from the Disk Tools PPC (can be found here; the Disk Copy 6.3.3 utility, and another Mac with a floppy drive, would be required to make a bootable floppy from the disk image). Otherwise, an appropriate version of the operating system on CD will be needed.

Floopy disk

Hi

Regarding configuring flopy drive for desktop please check these things

The wire on the ribbon cable with the red stripe is the pin 1 end and there should be a mark on the floppy drive as well marking the pin 1 end. Sometimes a little arrow or triangle point at pin1 sometimes stenciled with a number.

Floopy drive

Sounds like you have a bad floppy drive. If you are unable to read a disk and it wants to format it so it can read it try letting it format a floppy with no data on it or with floppy you don't care about. If it can format and you can read and write to it, then bad disks. If not then you know you have a bad floppy drive. Replace and enjoy.
