Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I cannot get my Mac to let me download info to my Simpletech external drive. I have no problem getting info off this drive. I used it on my Dell and had no problems at all. Now I need to use it on my Mac. I have looked for a installation disc that might have come with it, but I really do not remember if a disc came with it or not. The model # is 96300-41001-170. Any help sure will be appreciated

Your solution didn't work.......Using the Dell I got this:
The format was in NTFS and I clicked on the tap and it gave me two choices - exFAT or NTFS.
I could not get the external drive to accept this in trying to format it.
So I am back where I started.
Any other ideas would be appreciated
    Robert

What I would do is backup the data on your external (drag and drop to your desktop). Then use disk utility to reformat the external drive. Use FAT format so that you can continue to use it with your mac and pc.

Can I download Simpletech pininfarina 320gb drivers on Macbook Air

On a Mac you generally have all the drivers you need built in. Would be very rare these days to download a special driver. Any drive plugged in to the USB port usually shows up.
Perhaps the drive needs formatting first. Often external drives are pre formatted for PC.
First...Open Drive Utility in Applications / Utilities Folder
Then Plug External Drive in.
It should show up in Left Column of DU Window
Use Drive Utility to format & test the drive.
Use the Mac OS Extended (Journled) if using with Mac files or FAT 32 if swapping data from PC to Mac & back.
Good Luck

Can i transfer information to a mac

If the external hard drive has been formatted on a PC in NTFS file format then the MAC cannot read data off this hard drive.
The FIX..
Connect the USB external hard drive to a Windows computer and copy your data off this hard drive to the computer.
Then format the external hard drive in FAT32 file format. (the MAC can read and write to data to and from a Windows PC)
Now copy the your data from the computer back onto the external hard drive.
Now you can connect the external hard drive to the MAC and download your data to the MAC.

I am using SimpleTech usb2.0 external hard drive with my mac to back up. Can I use it with a second mac or does it over ride data from my first mac?

No problem at all! you can use more than one Mac or PC for that matter to back up to same external hard drive. Each will be identified with its name. If you are using two Macs its better for each of them to have different user name. Even if you use same user name Time machine will back them up with separating _1 or _2 so on.
Time machine is great way to back up your Mac! good luck!

I have a 500g external simple drive. i am getting a message that i can only read on my mac.

Copy all the data onto your Mac computer.

Take the external drive to a PC computer, and "reformat" it, using "quick format".

Take the external drive back your Mac computer,
and write all the "saved" files onto the drive.
