Question about HP Pavilion dv6426us Notebook
First, you need to get to the System Configuration panel
If you have XP: Press Start then go to RUN. Type MSCONFIG and press ENTER.
Ifyou have Windows Vista or Win7: Press Start then type MSCONFIG (it should show on the start search box) then press ENTER or left-click on the item that shows on the top left of the menu msconfig
Now when you have the panel up you need to go to the START-UP tab.
To do this you need to go and click the word "Start up" on the top right of the panel right before the "Advanced" tab.
You can now click DISABLE ALL button on the bottom right of panel.
Then you need to RESTART the computer.
This should disable all the programs that would automatically start when you first turn the unit on.
I would strongly suggest that you disconnect the internet connection temporarily to avoid getting any viruses on your computer.
If this would fix the problem then that means one of your programs installed on the unit is causing it too freeze up either because its using too much memory or its corrupted.
You can find out which program it is by going back to the Start-Up tab in the System Configuration panel (MSCONFIG) and then click one program to enable it (it would have a check indicating its enabled) and restart the computer. See if it will freeze, up if it doesn't just enable the next program on the list until you get to the program that will cause your computer to freeze up.
*Note: There could be one or more programs causing the problem so you may want to continue enabling the programs even if you found one out already.
After all these steps and you found all the programs causing the issue, then you can go ahead and leave them disabled or uninstall them completely (you can call the software manufacturer for assistance).
