Question about AT&T Fax Machines

AT&T Model 7810 Phone/Fax machine - picking up streaks as it reads a document

I have a model 7810 AT&T Fax machine with phone. When I fax or copy a document, the machine picks up vertical streaks which it puts either on the sent copy, or the copy which it prints in the copying mode. I would like to know how to fix this if possible. Thank you.

If necessary I can provide a sample, or photos. I am guessing it needs to be cleaned somehow, it seems to be somewhat of an older machine. The instruction manual has something about cleaning the lens, but I could not find where the lens is and could not figure out how to get the top cover off.

there must be dust on the lens of the fax machine just open the cover.

  • tech expert12 Aug 14, 2008

if a single strand of a hair like dust is present there ,it will copy that and so you have this problem.it is very common problem .and very very easy to solve. just lift the cover from where you insert the page to copy. there is a glass present called lens. it is not very in you can see it properly.just clean that glass with tissue.your fax machine is ok now and ready without any problem.

keep me updated because i have repaired hundreds of fax machine like this with a same problem like yours.

  • tech expert12 Aug 14, 2008

    it would be transperant glass.

  • tech expert12 Aug 14, 2008

it has thin black and white strip under it.not on it but under it.look carefully .from where you insert the paper when you have to send the fax.that portion can be opened.it does not have any screws, you just have to pull it slowly backwards towards you.do it very slowly.

Open the document feeder cover. The scanner glass is dirty or you have a bad scanner block.

It sounds like Tel/Fax mode is not set, but that the machine is likely in Fax Only mode. The JX200 has four modes of fax receipt - Fax/Tel, Manual, Answering Machine, and Fax Only. The Fax/Tel mode, which you have indicated is your desire, is meant to let the fax machine automatically switch between fax and voice calls. Documents are received automatically, and the machine rings for voice calls.

Set the mode by pressing [Receive Mode/Resolution]. Every time you press [Receive Mode/Resolution], the mode changes cyclically. If you set Fax/Tel mode, you can control precisely how the fax handles incoming calls by adjusting the following settings:
• Adjust the time the fax takes to check whether a call is from a fax machine or a telephone (<RING START TIME> setting).
• Adjust the length of time the fax rings when the call is a voice call (<TEL RING TIME> setting).
• Set whether the fax switches to receive mode after the ring time set in <TEL RING TIME> has elapsed (<DEFAULT ACTION> setting).
1. Press [Menu].
2. Use arrows to select <DATA REGISTRATION>, then press [Start/Copy]. The LCD displays <USER SETTINGS>.
3. Use arrows to select <RX SETTINGS>, then press [Start/Copy]. The LCD displays <ECM RX>.
4. Use arrows to select <FAX/TEL AUTO SW>, then press [Start/Copy]. The LCD displays <RING START TIME>.
5. Press [Start/Copy]. The LCD displays <8SEC.>
6. Use the numeric buttons, or arrows to enter the time the fax waits before ringing when it receives a call, then press [Start/Copy] twice. (This is the time the machine spends checking for a fax signal before ringing for the call to be answered as a telephone call.)
7. Use the numeric buttons, or arrows to enter the time the fax rings while waiting for someone to pick up the Handset, then press [Start/Copy] twice. The LCD displays <RECEIVE>.
8. Use arrows to select <RECEIVE> or <DISCONNECT>, then press [Start/Copy]. This setting tells the fax what to do if the Handset is not picked up within the specified ring time set in step 6.
9. Press [Stop].
Setting ends and the fax returns to standby mode. The machine will now handle calls as indicated in the settings you input.

  1. Just check & clean the dust in the original feeding area.
  2. if not solved, clean the Document feed sensor or replace the same. But for this you need to open the body of the fax machine.

do you have a seperate fax line? if so check the fax line.
also in the fax menu set up your fax to phone/fax mode, and set up all your fax info.
if you have distinq ring you need to set up your # of rings.

Blank Streaks

streaks are caused either by the toner, drum, lamp or fuser.

If you make a copy and it does not show a streak then it was done by the person sending the fax. BUT, check this,

open door and take out toner cartridge. look for a thin glass that is on the bottom of the machine and wipe it. Toner spills will cause a black streak.
