You may want to try looking at the rollers through the back of the printer when it tries picking up paper. Look and try to see if the roller assembly is even turning the rollers. If that works fine and you can see the rollers trying to push the paper into the paper path, there may be something blocking the paper from going through. Pull the paper tray out and inspect it for any damaged or missing parts. Then look on the underside of the printer where the paper path begins. Chances are there is just some jammed paper keeping any more pages from going through. If the rollers have been cleaned they could just be worn out and need replacing. Contact Dell tech support if you can't fix it yourself or need any parts.

How do I fix repeated paper jams?

Had the same problem with a HL-2140N. My solution was, after unnecessarily taking the whole printer apart inspecting the paper path and assemble it again afterwards, to check if the manual feed would still work. As this worked without a problem, I fuzzily guessed that something had to be wrong before that point.
In my printer, only the separation pad, and the roller right next to it came into question (both mounted at the front of the paper tray). I cleaned the separation pad (ultra fine paper dust gathered over the years) with cleansing alcohol, and took apart the roller assembly next to it (same kind of dust).
Especially the latter was super dirty. I took the roller out to clean the cleansing pad below it with an old toothbrush (Meridol Soft), reassembled, de-greased the roller with some cleaning alcohol, put everything back in place, and my printer works again the way I would expect it too.

Paper does not feed properly

If the printer is less than 1 year old, spray AIR to clean residuous of paper. If its possible clean the paper pick up roller and separation pad w/ alcohol isopropilic or soap and warm water (peace of rag or quill tip soaked in warm water. If the machine is used heavily used replace paper pick up roller and separation pad.

Printer won't take paper

Regarding the paper not engaging with the Dell 1110 Mono Laser Printer, I previously read somewhere that taking iso-propanol (everyday rubbing alcohol, $1.00 for 24 ounces) and cleaning the centrally-located black roller (located just above the leading-edge of the paper) with a cotton-ball and the alcohol could solve the problem and it did -- My Printer Is WORKING. I was shocked! Actually, I couldn't find our bottle of alcohol, so I substituted with a chemically similar product. I used hand-sanitizer which is about 70% v/v ethyl alcohol -- a similar enough solvent. My Dell 1110 is working like it's brand new. Also, I wasn't able to rub the alcohol on the back side of the roller -- just a logistics problem that I couldn't solve without removing the entire roller. If anyone knows how to remove the rubber roller in 5 or less easy steps, I would love to know.

Canon pixma MP145 pulls two papers in one time

Where the paper feeds, the pick up roller and separation pad are likely fouled with paper dust or other particles. They may be wiped with a lint-free item, moistened with clean water. Do not get the surfaces wet, do not use isopropyl alcohol, do not use detergent or cleanser.

My Dell 1110 laser jet printer begins to pick up a sheet of paper, but then stops just as the paper turns up with the roller. This will happen several times before the printer actually picks up the...

85% of paper jams are caused by worn rollers . The rubber treads in the rollers wears down, making them smooth, so they won't pick up the paper. Sometimes, they are aged, which also gives them a smoother rounded texture, causing jams. The quick fix is to liven up that roller with a mixture of alcohol and soap. Damp a rag with the solution and wipe the rollers clean with it. That's make them more pliable and the paper jams will cease. If you plan to keep your printer,

Replace the pick-up and feed rollers.

Metal Tab Separation- Pull out your paper tray and examine either end where the paper sits in. If any of the corners are held down by metal tabs, this is your paper feed system. Chances are, you only have one rubber roller or one set of rollers arranged along side of each other. Reach in where the tray goes and feel up. You should feel some rollers. They might be completely round, or they might be shaped like a half moon. Clean whichever part of them you can with the solution, and this should stop your paper jams. It might be necessary to turn them, but don't force them if they don't move freely.

Pickup Roller and Separation Pad-

If your printer uses this paper feed system, you should see a small piece of flat or slightly curved rubber or cork. It would be towards the end of the paper tray, or deep inside the paper loading cavity on top loaders. This 'separation pad' rubs against the paper feed roller, so if you find the pad, you've found the roller. Clean it and your jams should stop.

Three Roller Paper Separation System- Pull your paper tray out, and look for a roller on either end of it. If you find one, clean it. Then look inside the printer where that roller would rest with the paper tray inserted. You'll find another paper roller there. Clean this one also. Finally, look further back or closer to the front of your printer (depending on which way your paper feeds) to find another roller or set of rollers. Clean all of these, and your paper jams will go away.

Thanks, Joe

Okay.. 1st off I'm probably going to the jumped on for this... But.. I fix and/or make them work printers, computers and all sorts of electronic gear. For a living... Yes .. the manufacturer will tell you not to use alcohol to clean the rollers. but it does work. Windex (ammonia) will clean the heads at times. I also use Scotch brite pads to clean the pickup rollers. We get them in about 8x10 inch pads.
I will spay some alcohol on the end where the pick up roller is. Place the pad in normal paper tray. Most printers have a cam shaped one on the right, left or in the middle. That gets the paper moving. The pad is way to thick to actually move and will cause a jam indication on the printer. But what happens is the roller will slip on the pad and clean itself. Pretend you cleared the jam a couple of times and the printer will try to pick up the 'paper' and jam again. A couple of these and the pick up roller (cam shaped) will usually be good to go. The other option (the best) is to buy a new pickup roller for the printer. But cleaning will work for the short term. What happens on most printers is the roller gets very smooth from normal use and then won't pick up the paper for the rest of the trip through the printer. I have used a piece of fine grade sand paper, but you have to hold it so it won't go through the printer and it makes a gritty mess... Once I orderd a 'printer cleaner' from HP and all it was, was a couple of pieces of scotch brite glued to a fancy holder to match the spacing of the rollers. That's when I started using sheets of the stuff. Just pretend they are a piece of printer paper. In the worst case I have used belt dressing and then alcohol to clean most of it off. Alcohol has a tendency to soften the rubber on the pickup roller. That's why the company says don't use it. But you can by rubber rejuvenator that is mainly alcohol.. Go figure.........
