What you have to do is to gently remove the memory card from your camera. Take a look at it because SD cards have a switch located on the left which you can use to lock/unlock your data. I hope it helps!

Memory card is write protected

SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

SD Card Problems with Vivitar Vivicam 5118!

What size is the memory card. If it's larger than 4GB then it won't work in the 5118.
Try using another card. Don't format it in your computer but do format it in the camera before trying to take pictures.

A message always shows "MEMORY CARD IS WRITE

If you take out the memory card and look at it... it has a little button on the side... slide it over.... and then slap it back in the camera and that should take care of the problem.

You can also get the memory card locked/protected message if you are trying to use a SDHC card in a camera that does not support High Capacity (HC). High Capacity is any SD card with over 2GB of memory space.

Hope this helps.

I inserted kinston 4gb card in my digital camera , while in the unlocked position of switch. But camera shows "memory card error" "card locked"

  • There is a write-protection tab on the mini sd card HOLDER. Every time you insert this into your PC or card holder, this tab slides to the write protect position. Either keep resetting, inserting & reinserting until it doesn't slide or tape it down.
  • There is nothing wrong with the mini sd card. Simply locate the write protection key and push it.
  • The mini sd card has some error: Go for a low level formatting.
  • The card has virus: Remove the virus. The link for the steps is present in the related link at the bottom of the article.

Hi Team,, I have Nikon s4000 camera. I have an issue in cam, when i inserted a memory card, its showing "MEMORY CARD IS WRITE PROTECTED",, Please do needful.

Take the memory card out of your camera and look at it. SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

Find the flash memory card that plugs into your camera and stores the pictures. It's usually behind a door or flap on the side or bottom. Remove the card, usually accomplished by pushing it in and then it should spring outward slightly -- at least enough for you to pull it out the rest of the way. Check the card for a tiny sliding tab on the side and move it to the opposite end of its travel. See this wikipedia article for pictures and more info about write-protection.

    Memory Card

They tricked you. The picture in the guide is of an SD card, but the card that came with the G9 is an MMC card. On both, there is a row of brass-colored contacts along one edge. This is what looks like ribbing in the guide. These contacts should go into the camera first. The memory cards will only seat if they are inserted correctly, so if it goes in far enough to close the cover, you have it in right.
