Shapsog,
You may need to turn off the Filter Keys option. Follow the steps below to turn them off.
Go to
1. Control Panel
2. Ease Of Access Center
3. Make the keyboard easier to use
4. Uncheck the "Turn on Filter Keys" option
You also may need to Check to be sure you don't have Sticky Keys enabled.
BY PRESSING THE SHIFT KEY FIVE TIMES
Without pressing other keys, press the SHIFT key five times to enable Sticky Keys. A window will be displayed asking you if you wish to turn on Sticky Keys Clicking Yes will enable Sticky Keys or click No.
If none of these steps work you may need to replace the keyboard or plug in an external USB keyboard.

Aspire E1-571 keyboard not working

Sounds like one of the Accessibility/Ease of Access options got turned on by accident.

In the Control Panel section choose: Change how the keyboard works.
Look at the Filtericon1.png Keys option. Is it checked ON? If so, that's probably the cause of your problem.
I think if you uncheck Filtericon1.png Keys your keyboard will go back to normal.
Or try rebooting with an external usb keyboard.

Turn off filter keys

The Filter Keys feature in Windows enables the system to ignore keystrokes that it determines are unintentional, such as when you press a key quickly or hold it down for too long. This is a particularly convenient feature if you are learning to type or have trouble typing. However, if you turn the feature on by accident, the system may mistake your typing style as mistakes and ignore some keystrokes. Open the Ease of Access Center to access the settings to turn the feature off.

Click "Start," then select "Control Panel." Click "Ease of Access" at the bottom right corner of the window. Click "Change How Your Keyboard Works" under Ease of Access Center. Uncheck the check box next to "Turn on Filter Keys" in the Make it Easier to Type section. Click "Apply," then "OK" to save the settings. Hope this helps.

The.spacebar.stopped..working.

If your space bar isn't responding when you press it, or if it responds sluggishly, it's possible that you have inadvertently enabled the "Sticky Keys" or "Filter Keys" accessibility option in Windows.

When these options are enabled, your keyboard response time will be dramatically slowed and may require more than one tap to register a keystroke.

Fortunately, it's easy to disable these functions and return your keyboard to normal working order.

Click "Start" and select "All Programs."

Click "Accessories" and select "Ease of Access."

Click "Ease of Access Center."

Click "Make Keyboard Easier to Use."

Click "Set Up Sticky Keys." Deselect the checkbox that says "Turn on Sticky Keys When Shift is Pressed Five Times." Make sure the box that says "Turn on Sticky Keys" is not checked. Click "OK" to save your changes.

Click "Set Up Filter Keys." Uncheck the box that says "Turn on Filter Keys."

Click on the checkbox next to "Turn On Filter Keys When Right Shift Is Pressed For 8 Seconds" to deselect it. Click "OK" to save your changes.

Click "OK" again to save all of the keyboard accessibility changes you have made.

Hope this helps

How to turn off filter keys on my keyboard

Filter keys? That must be one of those new-fangled i-Keyboards that Steve Jobs was working on before he died.

Did you mean F-keys, as in function keys? There's usually one key labelled "F-Lock".
Oh gawd, you have a musical keyboard with different sound filters. Is that correct?

My backspace will only backspace one space at a time, even if I hold it down. All of the keys do the same thing. I have tried going in to adjust the keyboard setings but nothing changes. Something came up...

This just happened to me as well. I realized that some how the "filter keys" option had been turned on. Turning it on filters repeated keystrokes; it can be turned off by accessing the Ease of Access center, then to how the keyboard works, and then unchecking the filter keys box.

Hope that helps :)

Keyboard doesn't work properly

Turn on your computer, go to the control panel, if you are using Windows XP, click on switch to classic control panel" and then go to Accessibility Options. There is a keyboard tab that the settings can be changed to help people with disabilities operate their keyboards better but if you hold down certian keys for more than a few seconds, Windows XP will activate these settings. Sounds like your son accidently turned on "FilterKeys" There is a check box on the Keyboard tab of Accessibility Options that turns off FilterKeys. If "Use FilterKeys" is checked, uncheck that box and then click "OK" and see if that helps.

Good Luck!
