The stem is part of a cartrige its either brass or plastic covered with about 6 " O " rings. it gets corroded in place. moen sells a cartrige puller. see a plumbing supply house such sa HUGHES SUPPLY or Ferguson or o local plumber.

The spout on my Moen 7700 kitchen faucet is very "stiff". Do I need to get plumbers grease into it to loosen? If so, how? I've tried dropping the nuts under the unit beneath the sink and am still

you need to remove the moen cartridge. first, remove handle. at the top of stem, there is a U shaped retainer clip. it hard to see,use a small knife blade to catch the closed side of clip and slide clip out. once clip is removed, you should be able to pull cartridge out with a twist and pull motion. if it wont come out, that way dont pull to the point where you brake cartridge. that means replacing faucet. in extreme cases, you ca buy a moen stem puller for about $15. once stem i out simply coat with stem grease and replace cartridge. when replacing retaining clip, keep a pushing in pressure on end of stem to allow clip to slide into place. it iseasier to do than it sounds

When faucet is fully closed hot water keeps on leaking.

You need to replace the valve stem. Turn off house water, locate and loosen handle set screw, remove cylindrical cover, and remove retaining nut to access stem. Take e stem with you to a home store or plumbing supply house for accurate relacement.

Howdy, those can be like pulling teeth. The wd40 will not help that much as it is not a robust solvent. I suggest letting some liquid wrench sit overnight on it and then pulling real hard. Good luck:)

You are on the right track. You have to use some force when pulling the stem from the faucet. Your replacement cartridge should have a little black or whit cap. that is inserted on top of the cartridge and by turning the cap will help loosen the whole cartridge

Moen one handle tub & shower is leaking from spigit

A stem is a cartridge in a real old valve. You have pulled retainer clip, you can try to pull it out with pliers, but you might need a moen cartrigde puller.

Remove the retaining clip and then take a pair of plier or channel locks to grab the stem and work that stem side to side gently as you pull up or out.

If the water is off but still coming through, open a tap or two on one of the lower levels.

Basically the old stem does come out thru the top of the valve. Hopefully Moen sent you the tool to do this job. The tool is a 3/4"diameter about 4 inches long. Even on one end and two little tabs on the other.

Take the handle off stem. Remove the upper retaining nut, usually chrome. Pull out the two plastic upper stem pieces. Insert the 2 tabbed end into the stem area. You will feel the tab drop into the retainer ring. Slowly rotate the retainer ring out Counterclockwise. After the retainer ring is out then put the long screw in the stem and pull it out. Sometimes a little leverage helps here.

You will have TWO retainer nuts. The first one is easy just under the handle, the second will require the special insert tool.

Please rate this response and good luck, Phil

Make sure that the stem is slightly pulled out or open then use the plastic insertion tool that comes with the new cartridge and a pair of pliers to push cart. all the way in. Try the retaining clip again. If still won't go, partially install the insertion tool and turn cart. back and forth til clip goes in. Hope this helps

Moen single tub shower handle insatll

The valve has a faceplate that attaches with two screws and depicts the hot and cold mixing scheme on it. in the center of this is where the valve stem is located. It has a chrome escutcheon that slides into the faceplate and over the stem. There is a small -U- schaped clip that slides into the top of the valve body where the valve stem is seated that retains the valve stem. With all this in place all you have left is the acylic handle that has a unique shape to it on the internal portion that corresponds to the shape and position of the valve stm. Align the handle and stem and push the handle on. A small screw goes into the center of the handle to attach it to the valve stem. LASTLY you should have the acrylic button that covers the screw holding the handle on. All you do is align it appropriately and push the button onto the handle. The chrome handle version is essentially the same but is retained by a small allen screw on the underside of the base of the handle. I hope this assists you and thanks for using Fix Ya. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
