We have a Brother MFC-9840CDW with a fuser that's needing to be replaced. Brother says the fuser is part that "is not recommended to be done by the consumer." Are their hazards for changing the part myself anyway? Can you give me directions on changing the fuser?

The fuser can be replaced by opening the back cover and removing 2 screws.

Printed paper is dented at regular intervals as if embossed. There is toner in the dented areas. The dents are consistent in shape and location.

You will want to call a tech or contact Brother if under warranty to replace the fuser assembly. We had this problem in the duplexer built into the fuser assembly, we also had to replace the drum to get things back in order.

PRINT UNABLE 32

This usually works.

MFC- 9440, 9840cdw Print Unable 32

Usually caused by a sticking density sensor solenoid and can easily be repaired.

  • Remove the rear cover

  • Remove the fuser

  • Remove the Hi Voltage PCB

  • Check the angled density sensor window for sticking. When you move it, it should spring right back. If it hesitates at all, repair the solenoid.

  • Remove the old foam and replace it with adhesive labels.

  • Reassemble machine and test.

MFC-9840CDW Laser Printer -

If you have had it for 3 years, yes maybe fuser, and the fuser is actually the cheapest part to replace, but I would pull all parts out first and clean everything. Then toner carts, make sure to cover and shake gently so toner is spread evenly. If you are refilling your own, they can only be refilled once.

The service manual will be hard if not impossible to find. They only release those to factory authorized service centers. If you just need it for the fuser replacement instructions then often those will be either in the operators manual which is easy to find or the instructions will be in the box that the fuser comes in.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Sometimes just a static shock can do that, you need to replace the control panel pcb to fix it.
