Since Garmin had it back to upgrade the battery, I had it back and nearly every journey I take, it freezes part way through. It won't turn off either,until the battery is flat.

Open unit disconnect battery and speaker wait 3-4 min Re connect battery while opened .This should reset and clear any faults. ..reassemble

I have a similar nuvi model and this happened to me. I contacted Garmin who said that I need to update the software on my model. Plug your nuvi into a pc. Hopefully the pc will recognise the device and it will launch some Garmin web page. From there, read the instructions on the page and see if you can update the software. If there is no response from the device when plugged in, visit Garmin's website and find your device. There should be an option to update software. Try it this way. Hopefully this sorts the problem. I leave mine in the car a lot and in freezing conditions and while it does drain the battery a bit, I don't have the problem you are having. Good luck.

i would check battery connections and test battery. a battery can have a bad cell and run lights but not have enough amps to spin a stater. if everything on battery is good i would suspect a bad starter

Did you get the battery reinstalled correctly? The battery and a question mark means there's a battery problem.

It should come off that way. Apply more downward pressure, hard, and turn till it stops and won't go any further. Then pull straight up There are tangs on the bottom of the metal top of cap that must be turned (towards loosening) before they allow the cap to be removed. Possibly, you haven;t turned it far enough.

A Garmin Nuvi 1300 that won't start, freezes on 'loading maps,' or is acting erratically is symptomatic of having corrupt firmware.

To correct this, I recommend backing up your favorites, clearing all user data, and if it still is stuck, then updating your Nuvi firmware.

Mine does the same thing, after years of freezing heating and thawing in the car the batteries just won't hold a charge anymore.Getting a replacement battery would cost about $24 plus shipping.

It would appear that it's not accessing satellites. If it was it should know that you're at home. First, if you haven't already, press Menu and then STOP so it stops trying to continue the journey.

• If it then won't access satellites outdoors you should try updating the operating system software. Download and install Webupdater to your computer from http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27
• Connect your satnav to your computer and run the webupdater program
  
• It will search for updates to your satnav operating system. Install any updates it finds.
  
• When it finishes installing updates it will give you the option of installing optional updates. It's not necessary to install these unless you want to.

This should solve your problem.

When it's plugged into the cigarette lighter socket it should work. Sometimes the reason it won't is because the mini USB plug of the charger is not pushed fully into the satnav and it goes into mass storage mode showing a picture of a satnav connected to a computer. The plug appears to be fully pushed in but it's not. Pushing it in further usually solves the problem.
