My computer starts up and immediately shuts off. Most say its a hardware issue, tried a host of possibilities but the motherbaord being replaced. Suggestions?

Unplug the computer and open the case. Take a picture of the cards in the slots, and then remove all of them except the videocard (the cable that connects to your screen) if you have one that isnt built into the motherboard (be sure to label the connectors going to the cards if you're unsure of what they are) and then power the computer back up.

If it works fine one of the cards is bad. (If it dosent, skip down 1 paragraph) Turn the computer back off and unplug it, plug 1 card in and turn it back on. If it works, shut down and do the same for the next card. Keep going until you find the card that is killing it.

If it still dosent work with the cards out, it could be the power supply or something on the motherboard. Unplug the PC again and turn it on without plugging it in, this will drain the caps on the board. Holding the computer case with one hand (or use a ground strap) remove the memory from the sockets. Plug the computer back in and turn it on again (dont reach inside, fans and wires that are powered up). If it still does the same thing, it's the motherboard/cpu, if it beeps at you, it's the power supply.

I unplugged my emachine desktop when i went on vacation and now after repluggging it is dead to the world?

Hello there:
This is fairly common on these e-machines
Normally what happens is that the silver coin sized cmos battery will drain down and when this does by default it shuts it'self completly down untill you replace the battery ill need to be replaced.
Now what you can try first is to unplug the power cord from the computer and open the case and look for the cord that goes from the power supply that connects to the mother board and unplug it now press in the power on button for 1 min and release and if you have a reset switch do the same thing than wait 5 minutes and then reconnect every thing and try the computer again and see if this will get the system going ok if not get the battery changed and also check out the power supply too to make sure that it is running if not than the power supply may be bad but i dont see why it would if it was running just fine before you unplugged the machine ok
Hope all of this is very helpful for you If so please rate this solution for me
Best regards

Powering up

Possible that the defective power supply has caused damage to the motherboard or processor. Check replacement p/s for correct operation if its ok problem is most likely the motherboard/CPU which would require replacement

No power too PC

That LED light that is not coming shows that your motherboard is not getting any power. Heres the 2 things I would do....

1) Replace your motherboard and if that does not fix it...2) Replace your Power supply.....

Have you recently had any power surges in your area?

E-machine desktop powers up and shuts right down

Yes absolutely it is the power supply and EMachines have a reputation of using less than great power supplies. Do not turn it back on as it may cause damage to motherboard components. Now as for as getting a new one they are not expensive. FIrst you have to open the case and see what the wattage is on the current one..then go to a website like TigerDirect or NewEgg and order a new one. They are not hard to disassemble or assemble. Just a few screws and unplug some wires. So anyone comfortable with working with computers or electronics can do it....the only tricky part is remembering where to plug all the wires back into. So no big deal, order one with overnight shipping, an hour to install and she should be back up running by early next week. If you have any questions please let me know.

Won't boot up

Emachines are notorious for motherboards and power supplies frying after a power outage. Why? Even after 10 years of working on desktops from all manufacturers... this eludes me.

1)The power switching chip or chipset usually goes first. My best guess is be casue the power supplies in these desktops are VERY inexpensive. IT's amazing if they last longer than 1 year.

Replace power supply.. if doesn't boot still... replace motherboard.

2) If i'm waaay off and you get a boot screen or emachine logo.. but no windows logo... then hard drive crashed or file system got shot...

Replace hard disk and reinstall windows.. contact data recovery specialist. DYI data recovery .. causes more data loss... speaking from experience.

Emachine T2484 will not power up

Try to start it without any memory in it (RAM), if it beeps then you have bad RAM. If you have more than 1 piece of RAM then try one at a time and see if it will boot. If it doesn't beep and still doesn't turn on your CPU is probably the culprit since you have a new motherboard and power supply. I would also try unplugging everything that is unnecessary like the CD-ROM, Hard drive, sound card, etc..
