Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have an ACER Aspire One notebook. Worked well with wireless until external modem malfunctioned. It was replaced by Qwest. Other computers in home connected via cable and wireless connected right away with new modem. The ACER connects via cable with no problem. However, when trying to go wireless, I'm told it is connected to the home modem with great signal strength but will not connect to the internet. I've tried every solution I can think of but to no avail. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You need to buy a wireless router. It will connect to your modem and broadcast a wireless signal. Once your wireless network is set up you can connect your laptop to it.

Wireless connection problem

Hi,
if you are sure you didn't changed the password on the wifi router and it stopped working itself try restoring the system to the date it was working fine, but little caution all the settings/ programs installed after the restore date will be lost

Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. System Restore starts.
choose the date ie. bold and on which it was working fine and follow instructions

if you think the info given by me was helpful please do rate me

Can not make wireless work on an ACER Aspire 2930Z

Not shure how to help with the modems power issue without knowing the modems name but make shure the power cord is secure may aso try "start" "Control Panel" "Network connections" right click on "Wireless Network Connections" click on "properties" then click on "Internet Protocol" then "properties" make shur the "Obtain an IP address automatically" has the dot. if it does then try to go to the modems IP address this should be on the bottom or the back of the modem and config you wirelees setup from there, GL hope this helps.

How to install wireless

First, do you have a wireless router? I am assuming the AT & T service is DSL (am I incorrect?).
For a wireless network, you need a cable or DSL modem, then that is hooked to a wireless router that transmits the signal. The laptop is then set up to connect to the wireless network that you have created.
When you buy a wireless router, there is normally a setup disk that will help you do all of this.

Just give a shout if you need more help.

Acer notebook wireless just connects when near to the modem...

The connection between the laptop's internal wireless antenna and its wireless card may been disconnected. Best to take it in to a computer shop for fixing. If you want to fix it, open the PCI-E cover on the bottom of the laptop, then reconnect the antenna wire. If that doesn't work, get it serviced.

Internet

Well, the connection may come from the same company but the way you connect is probably completely different. First, we have to clarify a couple of things. Do you connect wirelessly or through an ethernet cable (hardwire)? Next, if wireless, do you have a wireless router at home? It's okay to say who your internet service provider (ISP) is. Sometimes, that will also give us a hint about how the connection is supposed to be set up. For example, Comcast offers wireless routers with their service that don't need to be run through a manual configuration. Qwest, on the other hand, has a wireless "bridge" connected to their DSL modems that needs to have settings plugged in to work.

Just let us know a little more and we'll be happy to help.
