Question about Lexmark X5470 All-In-One InkJet Printer

I have a X5470 Lexmark printer and it keeps telling me there is an alignment problem and is asking me to remove tape from the cartridges. There is no tape there that I can see.

It could be the cartridges in the carrier. Open the printer cover. Remove both cartridges. While the cover is open, check for any obstructions in the cartridge carrier's path. If all is well, close the cover. Unplug and replug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reinsert one cartridge first then close the cover. Check for any errors. Then, open the printer cover again and reinsert the other cartridge. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to appear. Or you can try to insert a different known working cartridge to determine if the other is faulty.

Try this:

To align the cartridges:

1. Press the Options button nine times until MAINTENANCE appears on the display.

2. Then press the right arrow (+) twice; you should see the word Align.

3. Press Select. The alignment page will be printed out automatically

Try to focus on the printer itself first. Remove the cartridges from the printer, close cover then unplug the power supply. The power supply is the black box behind the printer where the power cord is attached. Wait at least 30 seconds before plugging it back in the printer. When the printer's ready, reload the cartridges. Go through the alignment process. When it's done printing the alignment page, try to make a copy. If problem persists, I recommend you contact Lexmark Technical Support for further investigation. There might a hardware issue in the printer.

I installed a new cartridge and I keep getting an error message to remove the tape, which I did before the install. The alignment test fails.


Printer normally does the alignment printing whenever you do something on the cartridges (removing, reseating or replacing). Try to remove the cartridges from the printer. Clean the nozzles using a damp paper towel, if necessary. Close the cover. Unplug the printer from the power source. Plug it back in after 10-15 seconds. When it's ready, insert the cartridges. Let the printer print the alignment page again. Let it finish the whole page without cancelling it.
Check if the problem persists.

Installed new black print cartridge and removed tape. Continues to say alignment. Will onlyprint alignment page


After you print the alignment page, I think you have to then scan the page in the orientation that it asks you to.
By doing this, the scanner can tell if the printer alignment is correct.

Alignment problem


Disconnect from computer - remove cartridges - wipe the bottom of them - not the side - reinsert - reconnect - try again - should ask to realign cartridges... cheers

I just refilled black ink of my new printer Lexmark x5495. Does not recognise the black cartilage and keeps on asking for alignment. When it prints alignment page it does not use the refilled black ink....


“Lexmark does not support the refilling of its ink cartridges. Refilling the ink cartridges can cause them to leak, thus clogging or even damaging the print head. Any damage to your printer caused by refilled ink cartridges may not be covered under warranty”. Please use genuine Lexmark cartridges for best results.

Lexmark x5470, alignment error


hi alyciaadamo;
im not sure but i think uninstalling and reinstalling will not get the printer set back to default settings. can you navigate through the menu even if you see the error? press the cancel or something? if you can,look for reset factory settings.

also try to remove all the ink cartridge, and power cable from the printer, wait for 30mins and try it back.

I just want to know if your using genuine lexmark ink for you printer. :)
