Question about Radio Communications

I hooked up my connex 4600 turbo directly to the battery in my new international prostar, when I key up to talk, my check engine light comes on and it throws the cruise control off. Why is it doing this, and what can I do to fix it?

It's cause it's to big to much rf for the truck... Run your own coax make sure it's good coax not bought from a truck stop but go to a good cb shop like wolf man on 85 in ga at 164 and run a 4gauge ground from new mount to bolt on mirror bracket if that don't work your screwed I can only run about 100 watts on my Prostar but the rf messes with the ECM

You have a high-power radio that will put out over 200 watts RF power. You're drawing too much amperage from your car's electrical system, causing it to shut things off. First try a new and higher CCA rated battery. After that, you might need a bigger alternator. 200 watts is usually not a problem unless you have a little car built to use as little resources as possible to increase mileage.

    Wrong has nothing to do with batteries or alternator

Will a connex 4600 turbo cb radio operate cool enough in a dash enclosure?

I would say yes it has a large heatsink. The variable might be the tuning. But if it's amp is not being pushed any harder than factory you will be fine. Nice radio I prefer them over the 4400turbo and the 3600hp it has the board like a 4300 not the 3300s like the fore mentioned.

Connex 4600 turbo. Poor receive. About 4 mi.

Hi there!!

The Connex 4600 Turbo is a very sensitive radio these radios don't work good at all with the stock microphone! The best microphones are the RK-56 and or the Astatic 636L which most people use and you shouldn't get any squeal. And make sure if that you are using an external speaker get it as far away from the radio as you can facing away from the radio so it wont feedback. As far as a Mod kit there are several ways to modify the radio which most are pretty hard and drawn out. but the most easy that used to be used is as simple as a diode placement in the right place which is old school but still works good. You must be very careful as if you are to slightly touch the wrong points the radio could be destroyed and no longer work so caution is to be taken if you don't know what you are doing please don't try it on an expensive radio!! If you want more info on the mod e-mail me

never the less a Modulation kit or modification wont help your Receive it will only help your Transmit signal!!

Connex 4600 turbo the talk back

THE TALK BACK VOLUME IS CONTROLLED BY THE MIC GAIN, TRY ADJUSTING YOUR TALK BACK VOLUME ABOUT TURNING THE MIC GAIN FROM 12 OCLOCK TO 6 OCLOCK, DO NOT WORRY YOU WILL NOT LOSE ANY OUT BOUND POWER UNLESS YOU TURN THE MIC GAIN BELOW 11 OCLOCK

Connex 4600 turbo export radio

Hi,

On most mobile communications equipment, it is best that:
1. the power leads are directly wired to the battery terminals;
2. the bracket and radio body are grounded to the chassis of the vehicle;
3. a braided grounding strip be used in addition to the negative power lead; and/or
4. a gutter or trunk lip mounted antenna be used rather than magnetic. Antennas are better made of metal rod (not fiberglass) such as those made by Daiwa, Maldol, Oscar, Hokushin and others. The mount itself should use high quality RG58 coaxial cable such as those by Belden and others.

Hope that this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
