Question about Kenmore Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

My water dispenser has started coming on by itself at random intervals...the only way I've found to stop the flow when it starts is to open the freezer door.

Hello, Welcome to FixYa.

Based on your post I understand you have a problem with a Kenmore fridge, however if you could provide the complete model number and possibly the age of the unit I would be better equipped to assist you without generalizing on what it may or may not be.

I know many of the Kenmore fridges had diode failures causing water to dispense during the ice-maker fill cycles....but, let me know and we can go forward from here. I'll watch and look forward for your reply. Thank you for visiting FixYa for your inquiry.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

The water dispenser on 2014 Ikea (whirlpool) refrigerator stops working at random times.

I would replace the water inlet solenoid valve, that solenoid valve is what allows water to flow on demand. The valve is likely full of mineral deposits and this causes it stick closed at times.

How do I get the water to start coming out of the dispenser?

check that the supply valve is open, and that any filtration components are current. In areas with high mineral content, filters will clog/become impenetrable quicker than manufacturer specs, blocking water flow.

GE Profile Arctica PS123SGNA every fall the water dispenser stops working although the ice maker continues to work. Any ideas??

Strange, obviously the colder days dont effect the ice harvest so water is still coming in, has to be the water dispenser itself or the water filter may be freezing up stopping the flow.

Water does not flow

Sounds like air in the line.....the filter may be cracked/damaged, or not quite seated...?

since you've tried 2 new ones....I'm gonna bet they are not quite the correct ones for your fridge.

Flashing LD on panel and beeping cabrio top loader washing machine

Ld Long drain Clogged/slow drain/pump

"LD" stands for "long drain," meaning it took an excessively long time for water to drain out of the washer. Common causes for this are kinked drain hose or clothing, like panties or socks, caught in the pump suction hose. Why, I've even heard of bra wires coming loose and getting stuck in that hose, collecting all sorts of gookus and pinching off the flow of water to the pump. Can you imagine? Yea verily, as surely as the Sacred Suds doth eternally pass my lips, the "LD" error code springs forth from such anomalies.

Hope helps.

Water dispenser doesn't work

Replace the water valve on the refrigerator. The valve solenoid is stuck open causing water to flow freely. This should fix both issues with icemaker fill tube freezing and water dispensing.

GSH25KGRWW dispenses ice/water all by itself! Heard noise last night, and refrigerator was dispensing ice all over the floor!! Attempted to stop by tapping the lever, but this had no effect; pushed water...

as you explained that by opening the freezer door the problem stopped the problem is: that you have a pinched dispenser wire or, two in the area between the door and, the door opening
these wires are low voltage so they are not going to cause a fire
but, if they touch the cabinet due to a bare wire they will ground and, start running the dispenser.
the door cover needs to be removed and, the problem (usually at the door hinge must be found and, corrected i.e. wire taped, shielded etc.

Kenmore 417 starts then stops when water doesnt come out.

You could have a clog in the housing underneath the dispenser where the water flows through a hose into the tub.
Pull the dispenser drawer completely out.
There is a tab that needs to be depressed to release the drawer and remove it.
Check the opening at the bottom of the housing just inside the dispenser housing opening to see if a small sock or garment is clogging this opening.
Reach down into this opening to see if an item is inside the hose.
This is the normal issue that will cause water to leak out of the dispenser housing.

Wash the dispenser drawer thoroughly with warm water. Make sure that you pull off the siphon covers and wash all siphon holes. This process is described in your owner's manual. Replace the dispenser drawer and try the washer again.

Water/ice dispenser not working

Depending on the age of your house, large chunks of minerals may have dislodged in the water piping system, and is flooding the filter cartridge with trash. I had this happen recently on a 15 year old house that water stopped flowing in 4 cold water faucets of the bathroom.

Try this -

1) Roll the fridge out from the wall
2) Turn the water off at the wall.
3) Disconnect the water line from the back of the fridge
4) Get a bucket and stick the line into the bucket.
5) Slowly open the valve and see if water comes out. If it does, let it run for 20-30 secs at a decent flow, then turn off. If not water comes out, then you have a different problem. The cause may be the same, but it's not the refrigerator.

If water does come out, check the bucket to see if there are chunks of mineral buildup in the bottom, or floating in the water.

If there are minerals, then again, let the line run until the water runs clear. Open the valve as full open as you can to increase the water velocities and flush the chunks. Also, if no water comes through the tube, there may be trash in the valve itself, and you will likely need to call a plumber to repair unless your handy. I can describe how to repair, but that is another subject.

If everything flushes clear and you have flow, then get yourself a new filter, and try again. If there was mineral buildup, it is possible that some got through the filter and has built up inside the refrigerator water tubing. That again is another issue that I can help you with.
