Question about Maytag M6Y12F2A Air Conditioner

1 Answer

I have a Maytag M6Y12F2A-B air conditioner. The fan runs, but the compressor does not start. I believe I need to replace the capacitor. This happened last year, and at that time I found capacitors online, but it was the end of the season, so I just packed it away thinking I would fix it this spring. Now when I search online, I cannot find anything for this model. Does this sound like it is the capacitor, and if so, do you have a capacitor for it available (and if so, what is the cost, and how do I order)?

Hello, here is a link for parts for your ac yes is sounds like either a bad capacitor or bad temp control switch. If you have a multimeter you can check if tje capacitor is bad by first discharging it with a insulated screwdriver ( put screwdriver across capacitor terminals ) tjen set the meter to microfarad range, if the microfarad number is lower than whats printed on the of the capacitor replace.

Weather king model 13pja36a01 Heat pump The outside fan runs slowly, compressor starts then immediately stops. I replaced the run capacitor, I believe this might be the fan motor going bad but I...

If you have replaced the run capacitor and the fan still is running slow you definitley need to replace the motor no doubt. you can go online to or find one by your house. Your compressor is going off immediately because high pressure thats a good thing. Get a new fan and a new capacitor and you should be good.

Compresser not working, Not blowing out cold air

Without troubleshooting with a meter to make sure more often than not the dual capacitor is the reason that the fan blows but the compressor does not start.

This is the part for your model that we are talking about:

You can test you old one if your good with an analog meter by simply reversing the leads across the terminals on an R X1000 or higher setting on the meter. The meter should jump give a momentary reading and drop return to infinity. Only 2 of the 3 terminals will show meter movement. Mind you you must make sure the unit is unplugged while testing.

(window a/c stopped cooling? any ideas!!

Check all of the electrical connections and check the electrical cord for any apparent damage. If no problems found in wiring or cords, look for a compressor run capacitor.......carefully mark the capacitor and the wires you pull off.......take the capacitor to the nearest Air Conditioning Supply House and have them test it for you. If it is bad, they can offer a replacement and show you how to hook it up like the other one.

Was cooling for like 2 hrs then stoppped i hear

Jeff if you are up to it I can help you find the problem and very possibly resolve the problem, I will return with contact and links if I can find the model listed, Hang in there, First unplug and remove front cover. Then we need to find the start capacitor and eliminate it from the windings. I have much more if you would like toy approach this. Tell me the age of AC and its voltage. If you are going to save money and that is the reason the repairs to kitchen it would be wise to use a 220 voltage AC. That depends on your local voltage and the plug style or country you live in. I have tried to help some people not realizing their voltage. Please do not leave plugged in, as it may damage the internal overloasd inside of the compressor. I will be back, Sea Breeze

AC does not cool.

It could possibly be a bad capacitor if it has one or a bad compressor. There are some other things that would keep the compressor from running like a low pressure switch or a high pressure switch, a bad contactor that supplies power to the compressor. Usually its cheaper to buy a new window unit than replace the compressor in one if the compressor is bad. Hope this helps.

Maytag M6Y12F2A Window AC Unit

The capacitor should have a MFD (or UF)rating. As long as you match these numbers you can use any brand. Try searching these numbers not the model of the unit.

clean both coils(fins)and drain non-detergent non additive oil(not motor car oil) for fan motor take cover off compressor relay and inspect wires(clean plugs and pins of oxide) you may need a hard start kit if it has a hard time startting

Fan won't turn on. When I turned it on for the first time this summer, it won't blow cold air. I tried the different settings. The air compressor comes on, but the fan doesn't. Nothing happens with the fan...

Shut the power off to the unit, spin the fan blade to see if it spins freely. If it doesn't spin freely, (there appears to be a little drag when you spin it),the bearings are bad, if it does spin freely, then try moving the motor shaft from side to side if there’s any play in the shaft side to side then the bearings are worn and motor needs replaced. Then, check the capacitor, if it’s bulging even slightly, the capacitor is bad and needs replaced. Most of the time people replace the capacitor if motor seems ok. If capacitor is ok, turn power on to see if the motor is getting the proper voltage, if it is and not trying to run, then the windings are probably open, the motor's bad and needs replaced.
