If this laptops is making a clicking noise it is a bad hard drive. In any case if it is under warranty send it back for service.

I want to paint the outside case and the touch pad, how do I remove these?

You have to completely disassemble the laptop

1) Remove ALL power to the Notebook.

2) Follow Anti-Static Precautions

3) Remove the Display Assembly.
Disassemble the Display Assembly, until you just have the Top Cover in your hand. (Gateway term = LCD Assembly Lid )

2) Remove the Ram Memory, Wireless Card, Harddrive, Optical Drive, Keyboard Cover, Keyboard, Palm Rest, and remove the motherboard.

{ Advise using an ESD wrist strap connected to a good ground source.
Average cost is around $3 to $6.
I connect, for example, to an unpainted surface, of the metal frame of an open, empty desktop computer case.

Use a mutli-compartment container for the various screws you will remove.
Label each compartment for the area the screw/s come out of.

If no multi-compartment container is available, you can substitute with a clean egg carton. Label each egg holder.

SOME screws look VERY similar to other screws.
DO NOT mix them up! }

The heading is for replacing the DC Power Jack, but I thought the pictorial guide may come in handy ]

Gateway boot problem

This mostly happens when your motherboard is bad or one of the memory modules is bad.

The led light comming on indicates your power pack is ok but a component is failing to start especially when the laptop stops at the first screen stage where the manufacturer names appears.

The steps needed to solve this kind of problem would require technical skills and physical inspection.

If you still have a waranty period then seek a free service repair from an authorized or certified gateway service centre at the nearest centre closest to you.

If your warranty has expired, i still advise taking your Laptop to the closest Gateway service centre.

Make sure your wireless card is on (use Fn + F2 to toggle on and off).
Also make sure it is enabled by going to control panel -> network connections and right clicking on your wireless network device and going down to enabled.
