Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

Factory installed XM radio in 2004 Infiniti has intermitant reception. No signal indication on start up or starts and receives for short time then quits. Information display shows music playing when actual music stopped long before. Local Infiniti dealer (Clearwater, FL) replaced entire antenna components without resolution. Dealer seems unable or unwilling to continue to resolution.

All of the other audio functions are fine. I believe there is a buffer in the XM receiver; I wonder if that is involved?

Hello -- Is all other functions, ie, tape, CD are working fine? Or there is problems fo sound cut to these functions also? Your set will be 2004 Infiniti-135. Check for other functions also. If the problem is is for XM reception only, there is trouble with its local oscillator section related to UHF. Send me details please.

Hello -- Normally it will be activated as FM or XM transmission are recieve It is automatic function and will activat as we select the function. We needn't bother about it. There is a circuit, which called PLL [Phase Locked Loop], function that stablizes the tuning. If it has some trouble with it, the tuned frequency will not be stable, it will drift as time. This is happening to your set, as far as you description indicates. This PLL function only works for FM/XM receptions, and not for AM of SW receptions. As far as they are correct, according to you, PLL section has the trouble. It is not a seperate circuit, but integrated within the tuning IC itself. It will be very difficult to replace this IC, as it is an SMD type [Surface Mount Device], not a small one, but have 168 legs. SMD desoldering and resoldering machne is required to replace this IC. Your dealer has detected it, and so he rejected the work you see.
In my opinion, it is best for you to buy a new one, rather than repair this set. OK.

Separate 'plug and play' XM radios, like the one pictured above, have a "MENU" setup, and you can adjust the "Audio Level" in that menu setting. See if you can access an XM menu. You can also ask your question over at XM411.com or XMfan.com; both are 'fan' websites.
Good luck - nice car too!

Delphi SKYFi3 XM Radio Repeater

You begin by setting up your existing (((XM))) antenna the one that came in your home kit (not included in repeater package) in a location that gets good reception of the (((XM))) signal. This may be outside, or on a south facing window sill. This antenna gets plugged into the rear of the Delphi (((XM))) Radio Signal Repeater Transmitter. A power jack is right next to the antenna connection, and should be plugged in and to the wall with the included power supply. There is also a "PWR OUT" selector switch on the rear of the unit which allows you to control the strength of the signal transmitted from the unit.

Once the power and antenna are attached, both blue indicator lights will light up on the face of the unit. The blue antenna indicator will light up only to signify that the antenna is attached correctly. It does not let you know whether your antenna is in a location receiving a good (((XM))) signal or not. You will have to look at the signal strength indicator on your (((XM))) radio receiver do determine best location for the (((XM))) antenna.

Once you have this setup, place the Repeater Antenna close to your existing (((XM))) Radio and plug it into your antenna jack on the (((XM))) radio cradle. This connector is identical to your (((XM))) Home Antenna provided with all Boom boxes and (((XM))) home receivers and kits so compatibility is guaranteed. The Repeater Receiver Antenna does not require any separate power connections. Hope this helps!

XM radio reception issues

If you have the magnetic antenna, check it for a little nick on the cable on the outside of the car where water might get in to it. A little water can short the ground and the antenna wire. You also can wash (with lots of water around where the antenna cable is) and see if it happens again, then you will know it not just the weather
