Hi,

Try to update your video card driver if you haven't tried it yet. But if this will not work, try to use good known video card. If you don't have dedicated video card, might be a motherboard problem already.

Hope this helps.

I would try starting up in VGA mode (tap F8 at the splash screen and choose VGA mode from the menu)

VGA mode will load very few drivers and a generic video driver into Windows. From there you may be able to go to a website and download the latest (or even rolled back) drivers. Or you can uninstall and reinstall the drivers from the Device Manager (in the control panel)

This article from microsoft provides a little more detailed information:

I sounds like you have the video card set to a resolution that is higher that the E177 can handle. It can only go to 1280 x 1024 resolution. You will need to boot into safe mode in windows and set the resolution lower than that so the monitor can show it correctly.

Before Windows can boot-up the screen turns solid blue & a Dialog Box state "Entering Power Saving Mode". The screen then appears that the sleeping mode has occurred.

Screen goes black. the power light is on, but the picture goes out. if i turn the power off, then on again it comes back for about 5 seconds, then goes black again.

Check to see if this problem follows in safe mode. Reboot and when the Dell splash screen comes up tap F8 until you see the multiboot options. Scroll to "safe Mode with Networking" let the machine boot up and see if you have a screen. If you do, right click on the desktop and set the resolution to 800 X600 and reboot normally. Usually when a screen goes blank in normal mode but shows up in safe mode means you have an incompatible resolution for the monitor or graphics adapter. This may be a driver issue or hardware. If the screen boots up in normal mode at the lower resolution, then try and go to properties again and bump the resolution up a bit, if it blanks again, try to go online and update the driver for the graphics chip.

Try booting the pc into safe mode with networking. If it will boot to safe mode then all is not lost. If it won't boot to safe mode, try to boot with the windows disc and go to the restore screen or go to the repair option and try to repair the windows startup.

Monitor keep going into "sleep" mode

Check the power setting in control panel of windows. If you have a monitor from another computer swap them and see if the problem stays with the computer or monitor.

remove the new memory first. if that does not help you may have some a virus, indicated by safe mode workng fine. One other thing i found would do that is a damaged Hard drive, not to likely here because safe mode works.

Black screen and numbers 2 and 4 lit

The 2 and 4 LED error code indicatesVideo subsystem configuration or failure”. You either have a bad video circuit or your video drivers have a problem. Try booting into “safe mode” by tapping the F8 key when powering on the computer. If the computer comes up in safe mode then your video drivers may have to be reloaded.

Laptop won't boot (display problems)

If the diagnostics displays on the LCD screen but you get no display when Windows starts to load, it sounds like you have a video software driver problem. Try tapping the F8 key when you power on your laptop and boot in Safe mode. If it works in safe mode then you need to check you driver. You can also try connecting the laptop to an eternal monitor and see what happens.
