this type of system as no thermocouple, it operates on a flame rod type device [flame rectification] that once the pilot is establised it puts power on the main gas valve to operate, i mainly work on B type heating systems and not done any domestic work for 15 yrs . Brivis are difficult to work with and unless you are brivis certified they will not come to the party

Hi redrosebulld,

If the EPRL light still flashes most likely the thermocouple has worn out. The thermocouple is a safety device which stops the gas from flowing. I will recommend to consult an authorized repairman to check the thermocouple and also the injector.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Hi,

According to your problem, first check the electric input & outlet. Check the gas connection. You may need to reset it. Reset the timer properly & the time zone also. It may help you.

The electronic controller is shutting of the main gas valve. There are 2 themostats in the system that the controller uses to sense heat. One is the 90 Deg thermostat and the other is the overheat thermostat

The PN's in quesion are:

2500121 the Controller
2501440 Thermostat
2501442 Thermostat
1319855 Thermostat is for the fan motor only and should not effect the burner operation

See this manual link below page 25 for parts listed above.
http://www.reece.com.au/new/pdf/products/Reece_Gas_Reference.pdf

The 2 thermostats need to be tested for continuity when heated. No continuity when heated with a match = failed themostat.

^-- I am having a bit of memory fade here but you will only have continiuty when either the thermostats are either cold or HOT but not both.

For sure the owners manual below is of no help at all.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

you need a new thermocouple. u can either get one from a plumbing store but the can be a bit fiddley to fit or u can get the proper Brivis one it just pulls out and u put the new one in. then u have to re light the pilot light. make sure u hold it down for at least 45 sec to make sure that it is getting hot enough when u release it it will stay alight then turn gas valve to the on position

I have a Brivis Buffalo 85, pilot light is on main burners will not ignite when turned on? It seems like gas isnt allowed to bar which turns on main burners

Usually a thermocouple or similar device is employed to allow fuel to flow once the unit sees that there is sufficient heat to ignite the fuel. Otherwise it can be a fuel valve that "sees" an unusual flow of gas which sets off the safety.

Brivis buffalo 85 main burner not coming on pilot light is on fan comes on ???

If the pilot is on the thermo couple is ok. Could possibly be a faulty temperature limiting switch, it may be stuck and just needs a spray of WD40 or similar product. Then again I could be completely wrong.

Brivis Buffalo 15 not blowing air.

This sounds like a flame proving fault, so what's more than likely happening is the unit isn't sensing the flame. You'll see a small metal rod sticking down infront of the burner on the opposite side as the ignition source. Remove that rod, and clean it with some scotch bright. If you know how to work a volt meter you can test this part. Take the wire off the flame rod, place your meter leads in series with the wire and flame rod and set it to micro amps DC. Fire the unit up, and when your main burner lights you'll want to see a minimum of 1micro amp DC. If you're getting a higher reading than that and it still cycles I'd be suspicious of the grounding of the burner, or the ignition control! Good luck, let me know if you need any more instruction!

When main gas valve opens to start burners the gas pauses then ignites with a high volume woof. The pilot flame looks a little small could this be the issue. This unit is Brivis Buffalo year 1988 model...

The problem is called "Delayed Ignition". This can be caused by burner & pilot obstructions (dust, lint and/or pet hair) and needs to be thoroughly cleaned. At 23 years old, I'm surprised the unit is still in service.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem.

Burners on our Brivis Buffalo 52 Ducted heater aren't getting gas

test thermosat for proper operation ie-broken wire-power if good jump stat and check if unit goes on if it does than stat internal problem or wiring problem and needs replacement or repair --if stat good check fan safety/high limit sensor if good would need to check and test thermocouple thats the tube that the pilot flame burns on may be enough to keep pilot burning but not enough to open valve for heat demand

Brivis Buffalo 85 central heating unit - fan stays on problem

I have exactly the same problem. When I have the cover off there is a red light on, from what I can tell is the "Over Heat Fan" this seems to keep the fan on, and because it is in error prevents the system igniting. Haven't got a solution yet it only happened last night. Stu.

Heating isn't working, can't find the red button to relight the pilot

Many times the knob to turn the gas on on the valve is also the pilot knob. Turn it to pilot and hold it down while you light the pilot. Hold it for up to a minute and release. If the pilot stays on then turn it to on. If not you need a new thermocouple.
