MY CUB CADET LTX 1040 IS PROBABLY A 2009 MODEL. IT WILL START FINE BUT WILL START TO STUMBLE AND DIE WHEN I RELEASE THE PARKING BRAKE OR WHEN I TRY TO ENGAGE THE PTO TO OPERATE THE DECK BLADES. --THIS MAY BE A RESULT OF MY REMOVING THE DECK AND HAVING A PROBLEM THERE WITH THE DECK ENGAGEMENT \r\nCABLE SET UP, THE ONLY WAY THAT I COULD UNDO THE SPRING WAS TO REMOVE THE BRACKET AND TO BE TRUTHFUL , I WAS NOT 100% SURE THAT I REINSTALLED IT CORRECTLY.---AS I SAID ---IT STARTS UP FINE BUT WILL SPUTTER AND DIE WHEN I RELEASE THE PARKING BRAKE OR WHEN I TRY TO ENGAGE THE DECK BLADES. WHAT IS MY FIX ??

ALL THE INFO GIVEN HERE IS CONTAINED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL----I TRIED THEIR FIXES BEFORE I CONTACTED YOU PEOPLE, WHAT I AM EXPECTING FROM YOU IS ---FIRST DO THIS AND THEN DO THAT AND THEN YOUR PROBLEM WILL BE SOLVED-----IF WE CANT DO THAT, LETS FORGET IT--I AM NOT SATISFIED WITH YOUR HELP SO FAR

JIM,YOUR ANSWER SEEMS TO BE A LITTLE MORE INFORMATIVE THAN THE OTHERS. ARE YOU PIN-POINTING THAT SEAT SWITCH AS THE PROBLEM-----NO--I DIDN'T DISCONNECT ANY ELECTRICAL SWITCHES. I DID DISCONNECT THE DECK ENGAGE SWITCH BY FIRST REMOVING THE BRACKET WHICH IS BOLTED TO THE DECK. I AM FAIRLY CERTAIN THAT I REINSTALLED IT CORRECTLY.THAT PARTICULAR CABLE IS
SHEATHED AND LOOKS ELECTRICAL BUT IT ISN'T. IT IS ABOUT A 1/16" CABLE THAT SNAKES AROUND FROM THE DECK --UP AROUND THE BACK OF THE TRACTOR AND ENDS UP ATTACHED TO THE PTO LEVER--IT MOVES A PLUNGER IN OR OUT.--UP NEAR THE PTO LEVER---I CANT SEE IT BUT I CAN FEEL IT ----BACK TO THE SEAT SWITCH---I AM NOT QUITE SURE WHAT YOU MEAN THAT IT PREVENTS THE TRACTOR FROM RUNNING WHEN NO ONE IS SEATED----MY TRACTOR WILL START AND THE ENGINE WILL BE HUMMING ---WITHOUT ME SITTING IN THE SEAT--THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE ENGINE WILL BEGIN TO STUMBLE AND DIE WHEN I BEGIN TO RELEASE THE PARKING BRAKE---SAME WITH THE PTO LEVER----NOTE THAT I AM NOT SEATED IN TRACTOR SEAT WHEN I AM DOING THIS--I AM STANDING ALONG SIDE THE TRACTOR. DO YOU THINK IT WOULD ACT ANY DIFFERENTLY IF I WERE SEATED IN THE SEAT?

The problem is most likely the interlock safety that prevents the riding mower from running when no one is seated. There is an interlock switch in the seat. Either the switch is defective or you have a break in the wiring between the seat and the rest of the system. Did you disconnect any wiring connectors when removing the deck? Did you get them back in the correct locations?

Yes, all modern (since at least the 90's) have had a safety switch in the seat that prevents the mower from moving or engaging the mower blades when no one is seated in the tractor seat. This theoretically prevents you from being run over or sticking your hands in the mower blades.

Check what happens when you are seated in the seat.

Note, it does take a certain amount of weight so .... do not try to fool it with a weight.

As per the problem you mentioned, its indicating towards switch problem. The seat switch is getting short so the engine dies as you release parking brake. But there are many other possibilities if seat switch checked ok,.To go through other possibilities and deck engagement belt replacement procedure please click the link below:----

Considering the events leading up to the problem the fix is to get the deck engagement cable setup. Once you get the cables setup properly the unit will not give you the said problem anymore. When the bracket is not properly fixed the cables end up being poorly connected and cause poor contact and therefore flow of fuel through the system becomes inadequate as the cables are not acting as expected due to the poor fix. With the description given there could be a ton of other things which could have gone wrong with the system due to continuous trials. Try to get an expert look at it and assemble it properly to ensure that other damages dont happen to the unit as continuous trials could only worsen the situation.
Hope this solution has been helpful?

Trying to jump (with my car, I know it's not good) my cub cadet LTX 1046. Worked a few times. Now the parking brake light comes on when I try to turn it over and the motor won't even try to start. Nothing....

Find the switch attached to the parking brake mechanism. It's probably stuck. Jumping with a car will not hurt it if it uses a 12 volt battery. The car is not "too much power" for it. The mower will only take what it needs.
