Question about Microsoft ISATAP Adapter

1 Answer

The IP address XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX you have entered for this network adapter is already assigned to another adapter Name of adapter. Name of adapter is hidden from the network and Dial-up Connections folder because it is not physically in the computer or is a legacy adapter that is not working. If the same address is assigned to both adapters and they become active, only one of them will use this address. This may result in incorrect system configuration. Do you want to enter a different IP address for this adapter in the list of IP addresses in the advanced dialog box? when i try to connect to my internet it is showing me this problem could you please help me in rectifying this

Hi,

Run the command prompt (Start > Run > cmd).

At the prompt type:

set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1

then hit enter. On the next line type:

start devmgmt.msc

This will load the device manager program *with* the ability to see old hardware that has been removed.

Go to the View > Show Hidden Devices and you should see the old network card under 'Network adapters' .. it should be greyed out.

Right click on it and choose uninstall. Don't get rid of the RAS one, it won't let you even if you try from memory.

Then try the IP address again, you should be ok.

The router must be configured to match your

Internet service. If you do not know your

Internet connection configuration, please

contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

By default, the router is pre-configured with

these settings:

• Automatically set IP addresses for

computers on your LAN (connected to the

router's ports 1-4). The router acts as a

server for dynamic host configuration

protocol (DHCP) and assigns IP addresses

in the range 192.168.123.100 through

192.168.123.199

• The default LAN IP address for the router is

192.168.123.254 with a subnet mask of

255.255.255.0

• The Internet service connected to the
router's WAN port uses a dynamic IP

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response. Happy Holidays!

My laptop wont connect to my wireless router, it just says acquiring network address all the time, it does connect to other wireless routers though?

To connect a laptop to a wireless network for accessing internet....you have two ways:-
1. DHCP (Dynamic Host Control Protocol) 2. Manual entry of settings in wireless adapter properties.
1.DHCP:- In DHCP method you dont have to enter any settings on the wireless adapter. The wireless network which you are connecting will automatically assign an IP Address to you. But to use DHCP it must be supported by your wireless network router settings.
2. Manual entry of settings in wireless adapter properties. This method is mostly used over wireless Connection in small networks connecting 2-200 computers. In this method you have to obtain the following information from your connection provider.
* IP address (Its format is "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx") * Default gateway address (very important) * Primary and secondary DNS (If not given then you can use "8.8.8.8" as primary DNS and "8.8.4.4" as Secondary DNS...thats free DNS service from google and its very fast) * Subnet Mask (not needed mostly...automatically generated)
To enter these settings you have to rightclick the Wireless Adapter>> and select properties>>Then double click the Internet Protocol version 4(TCP/IPv4) and enter these settings. In many cases when you are using proxy server then you have yo use proxy settings also in your browser..
Hope this will help 4 sure....Cheers..:)

When setting up a USB wireless adapter for wireless access on a second PC to the internet, which IP address am I supposed to enter? I have a cable modem, so do I put in the IP for the Ethernet adapter or...

ur gateway IP for the Router will be something like this (this is only for your guidance, check ur service provider for the actual IP address digits to be entered insted of the XXX mentioned here by me
Gateway IP address
XXX.XXX.1.1

your machine IP will be like this
XXX.XXX.1.3 for machine 1
XXX.XXX.1.5 for machine 2

Subnet Mask will be
255.255.255.0 or something else, check ur service provider

these settings have to be done in the TCP/IP setting of each machine

in machine one the TCP/IP setting will have
XXX.XXX.1.3 in the IP address field
and in machine two it will be
XXX.XXX.1.5

DNS address will be your service provider's server IP address....

XXX.XXX.XXX.XX
XXX.XX.XXX.XX

Note: XXX.XXX to be replaced with numeric digits based on your service provider's settings.
check with your service provider for the gateway IP address, and IP address

When my wireless network is unsecured I can connect fine and browse the internet fine, but the moment I try to set up security I get a "limited or no connectivity" message from my wireless network. What's...

You must ensure that you have enabled the router as a DHCP server and the client PC network connection is set up to "obtain an IP address automatically". If the computer is not obtaining a valid IP address from the DHCP server (i.e. the router) you will get the limited or no connectivity error. You can easily check to see if you have a good IP address by opening a CMD prompt window and running ipconfig.exe. Generally, the WBR-1310 will have assigned an IP address like 192.168.0.xxx. If you have an IP address like 169.254.xxx.xxx you router is not assigning your computer a valid IP address. Powering down the PC and/or the router will usually fix this, but not always. There are other, more compliated, steps that can resolve the problem if the above steps do not work.

Logged off

The LAN should not ever log off but either you are talking about the Internet, which can, microwave devices (ovens, wireless phones) that intermittently interfere or dynamic ip addressing cycles that assign you the 169.xxx.xx.x from within Windows attention deficit disorder manager. You can assure static assignments of ip addresses for your LAN (write down the ip address and default gateway when you are logged on to see what they should be) or log on to your router (Start>Run> type http://192.168.1.1 for Linksys, user name linksys, password is admin and you can configure your LAN and WAN. Select DHCP for cable modems, PPPoE for DSL or STATIC for ensuring LAN ip address assignments. ~Steve
