Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Hi, I own a Samsung hcm4216w rear projection TV. TV has video and audio initially. After a few minutes video disappears but the audio continues. The video does not come back, only after the TV has been sitting for awhile. Thank you for your help. I've already used your website and got good results with the fix. I am hoping that you can help me again. Thank you, Jan

You need to notice if the video goes gradually or suddenly. If gradually then you have a solder connection bad that supplies voltage to the filaments of each CRT or tube. This is usually found off the high voltage transformer pin connections. If suddenly, then you are loosing high voltage and could be a bad solder connection as well around the high voltage transformer. Another problem could be loosing vertical deflection on the vertical deflection IC with bad solder connection on one of the pins. You can determine if this is the case by turning up one of the screen controls: red green or blue to see it it shows a line across the screen

My Samsung hdtv rear projection tv model#HCM4216W doesn't have any sound good picture though but does have some light waves in picture

the lack of sound is likely due to a defective audio output amplifier integrated circuit or IC for short, it needs replacing, the wavy lines through you picture is due to a defective filter capacitor in your power supply circuit, or may be due to the audio amplifier I.C drawing more current from your power supply causing a non clean power to be supplied to the video circuits, have the audio amp replaced first and note if the wavy lines are still present if so it is likely that some filter capacitors need replacing, to obtain sound you might be able to connect a external amplifier like your home stereo using the aux input and the sound output from your TV`s RCA jacks, this works well, let me know if you need further assistance good luck

TV Powers on and then shuts down and attempts to start again

Remove all connections from the tv other than rf cable. This is an hdmi lockup problem sometimes related to component video inputs depending on firmware version.

Blue and Yellow doubles

Well, fortunately the television that you purchased has an auto-convergence feature. What is happenning is that your color lamps are misaligned, did it get moved at all recently? Anyway, in your menu you should see a "Convergence" menu, and inside that menu, a section called "Perfect Focus". Run Perfect Focus in this sequence: Green --> Red --> Blue After that your picture should look great, if not try tinkering with the manual adjustments on the "Convergence" menu.
